Los Angeles Clippers star forward Paul George was tasked with narrating a powerful video on the team's Twitter account, titled “While We Were Away.”

George described what the last three months have been like since the NBA 2019-20 season came to a halt. The Clippers star cited the start of the coronavirus pandemic and the loss of lives, jobs, and the constant changes the world has undergone since:

The star forward ultimately landed on the biggest and most recent issue of racism, using some powerful words to describe it:

“While we were away, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery were murdered,” said George in the video. “Cause of death: another more familiar virus, centuries old.”

Without saying so, the Clippers forward implies how racism has plagued the lives of many African Americans for the past few centuries — a disease the United States hasn't been able to find a cure for.

Black Lives Matter, which has now become the largest civil rights movement in world history, has made great strides to find justice, fighting for racial equality and against police brutality.

George acknowledges that the return of basketball will not bring people back from the dead, nor will it keep them safe from the novel coronavirus. There are also many people who will still be jobless because of the pandemic. However, basketball can help as a unifying platform to bring awareness on social issues.

With the NBA roughly eight weeks away from its return, the Clippers are anxious to get back on the hardwood, but also to connect with their fans who have had a lot to endure during this three-month hiatus. LA went into the hiatus with a 44-20 record, which is No. 2 in the Western Conference behind the Los Angeles Lakers. The Clippers and Lakers are the two top title contenders in the West.
