Why Clemson Could Cover The Spread
Clemson is still the deeper team, and has much more on the defensive side compared to Pittsburgh. They can present a tougher challenge than anything Pickett and Addison have seen so far this season. Quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei has held the offense back a bit to say the least, so the Tigers will need to run the ball well to keep up with Pitt's passing attack. This number probably surprises people with Clemson as an underdog, but Pickett has been that good and Uiagalelei has been that bad.
Justyn Ross is explosive for Clemson on the outside, and Uiagalelei will need too find a way to get him going if Clemson is going to keep up with Pitt's offense and get the cover on Saturday afternoon.
Why Pittsburgh Could Cover The Spread
Pickett has 21 touchdowns and 1 interceptions on the season, with almost 2,000 passing yards through six games. He's been a beast for the Panthers. The Sophomore WR Jordan Addison has 586 yards and nine receiving touchdowns through six games, which is also astonishing. Pittsburgh has a legitimately explosive offense that can put up points on anyone. Pickett and Addison give the Panthers a great shot to cover vs. Clemson at home on Saturday. Pittsburgh might be a little bit susceptible to the run vs. a bigger Clemson team, but if Uiagalelei, it will be difficult for the Tigers to run the football again this week as it has been all season.
