Costa Rica’s performance in their previous game must worry Colombia, as they held the high-flying Brazilians to zero goals in a shocking 0-0 draw. Colombia managed to hold off Paraguay to win their first match 2-1. Colombia now sits comfortably at the head of the group, and a win in this game would send them through to the knockout stage. Costa Rica can guarantee at least a tie at the top with Brazil heading into the final match, which will be in their favor as Brazil and Colombia square off in a significant matchup. It is time to continue our Copa America odds series with a Colombia-Costa Rica prediction, pick, and how-to-watch.

Costa Rica’s result against Brazil was shocking, but the path was there for it to happen. Costa Rica earned a 0-0 draw against Uruguay in May, one of the top teams in this tournament and a group that beat Brazil earlier in the year. They cannot be taken lightly in this tournament, as they’ve held their own against every test so far.

Colombia may be the team to beat in this tournament after seeing Brazil’s result against Costa Rica. Colombia hasn’t lost since February 1st, 2022, marking their win over Paraguay as their 24th-straight unbeaten result. This isn’t a futures article, but Colombia at +700 to win the trophy feels like a great value bet.

Why Colombia Will Win

In the prediction article for Colombia and Paraguay, we outlined that the Paraguay defense was tough to break down and that Daniel Munoz and Jefferson Lerma would be integral to the Colombian attack. The Crystal Palace duo were even more crucial than we imagined, as they scored a goal each in the 2-1 victory.

Munoz and Lerma were the finishers, but James Rodriguez created both goals with two masterful assists. The Costa Ricans will be harder to break down, but Colombia has the finishing power. It wasn’t a lack of opportunities that held Brazil down, as they outpossessed Costa Rica 74 to 26 and out-chanced them 19-2. If Colombia gets that many chances, they should be able to find the back of the net.

Why Costa Rica Will Win

Costa Rica held on for dear life against Brazil, as evidenced by the shots and possession numbers above. Costa Rica was lucky to get out of that game with a draw, and the same goes for this game. Colombia’s defense won’t be as strong as Brazil’s, as the Colombians were even with Paraguay at 11 shot attempts and three on goal a piece.

The goal for Costa Rica is to finally get a shot on goal and hope the offense comes to life from there. Another shotless outing will make it impossible for Costa Rica to win anyway.

Final Colombia-Costa Rica Prediction & Pick

The call to bank on the Costa Rican defense to keep the Brazil match under 2.5 goals worked, as the Costa Ricans did one better and secured a draw. It’ll be hard for Costa Rica to pull that off twice in a row, but the chances of Colombia’s offense exploding for more than two goals isn’t likely against them. Take this game to go under again and hope that Colombia escapes with a 1-0 or 2-0 victory.
