The reaction around the sports world was just a complete and utter shock when Andrew Luck decided to retire on Saturday night. On the other hand, the reaction from the fans of the Indianapolis Colts fans may have been even more shocking.

During his post-game presser after the Colts preseason game against the Chicago Bears, Luck reacted to the fans booing him. The fans booed him as he made his way into the tunnel for possibly the last time at Lucas Oil Stadium.

“I’d be lying if I didn’t say I heard the reaction,” Luck said, via Kevin Bowen of 1070 The Fan. “It hurt; I’ll be honest.”

For the fans, to boo a player who poured his heart out for the franchise for seven seasons is extremely distasteful. Luck has suffered a plethora of injuries in the past few seasons and Luck pointed that out as the sole reason why he is walking away from football.

Last season, Luck made his awaited return from a shoulder injury that held him out for the entire 2017 season. Phenomenally, the gunslinging quarterback threw for 4,593 yards and 39 touchdowns in 2018.

Over the course of his career, Luck was able to lead Indianapolis into the playoffs four times—including last year. The Colts ended the 2018 season with a 10-6 record before taking down the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round.

Then, their season was cut short by the Kansas City Chiefs in the following week. Despite the loss, the future was bright in Indianapolis. Now, with Luck retiring, the future is murky but the quarterback deserves to be showered in praise for how much he gave to the team over the past seven years.
