The Indianapolis Colts didn't waste time making moves in free agency, acquiring DeForest Buckner in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers on the first day of the legal tampering period. After landing with his new team, Buckner is excited to play alongside Justin Houston.

“We’ve got a lot of talent. We’ve got a lot of great veterans like Justin Houston. I am excited to get to work with Justin,” Buckner said via Kevin Hickey of the Colts Wire. “Dee Ford has told me nothing but amazing things about him so I am ready to pick his brain a little bit.”

Buckner got a chance to play with Dee Ford in 2019 after the 49ers chose to trade for the edge rusher from the Kansas City Chiefs. While Ford was with the Chiefs, he spent some time rushing the passer with Houston on the other side.

Given that, Ford informed Buckner that he'll enjoy playing with the veteran edge rusher in Indianapolis. Last offseason, the Colts signed Houston in hopes he could provide a spark in the pass-rushing department in 2019.

It's safe to say that Houston exceeded expectations, notching 11 sacks — the most he's recorded since the 2014 season. With Buckner joining the front seven in Indianapolis, the Colts expect to have even more success getting to the quarterback in 2020.

Prior to being traded, Buckner had one of the best seasons of his career with San Francisco in 2019. The former first-round pick tallied 7.5 sacks and two forced fumbles while the 49ers advanced to the Super Bowl. Despite being traded from the reigning NFC Champions, Buckner seems excited about his opportunity to join the Colts.
