Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is dealing with a pair of injuries, as he has a calf issue coupled with an ankle sprain. As a result, Luck is not expected to play in the preseason, and his status for Week 1 of the regular season is very much up in the air.
The problem is, the Colts don't exactly have much time to make their decision on Luck, as the season opener is less than a month away.
Indianapolis head coach Frank Reich says that the club will likely decide by the end of its third preseason game whether or not Luck will be available come Week 1:
“I think with that, ideally, the more time you have, the better,” Reich said, according to Mike Wells of ESPN. “But by the end of the third preseason game, you have to know something. You have to be able to make a call and move from there in whether we’re full speed with Andrew after that third preseason game or if at that point we’re going with Jacoby. We’ll make that decision with that when the time comes.”
Luck was originally thought to just have a calf issue, as the injury first occurred back in April and reared its head again this summer, which has caused Luck to miss just about all of training camp.
But, earlier this week, Colts owner Jim Irsay stated that Luck also had an issue with a “small little bone,” which was later revealed to be an ankle injury.
Indianapolis will play its third preseason contest on Aug. 24.
