Philadelphia Eagles running back Jay Ajayi is set to hit the market as a free agent this offseason. It appears the Indianapolis Colts have already reached out.

Ajayi is coming off a devastating ACL injury. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, he is scheduled to meet with the Colts at some point next week.

Eagles FA RB Jay Ajayi is set to visit the Colts next week, source said. One of the top backs available. Coming off a torn ACL, he’ll have a physical.

This is certainly an encouraging sign for Ajayi. He rushed for just 183 yards and three touchdowns in four games with the Eagles prior to the injury in October. As a result, Philadelphia has seemingly decided to look for options elsewhere.

Ajayi's prospects are not looking too strong at the moment due to the severity of the injury. However, Indianapolis could be the perfect destination for a potential resurgence. The return of quarterback Andrew Luck has lifted this team back into playoff relevancy. More importantly, they have more assets than any other team to help build on their momentum this offseason.

Despite the emergence of running back Marlon Mack down the stretch of the 2018 campaign, it seems the Colts may still be looking to add some depth to their backfield. Although the jury still seems to be out Ajayi, the 25-year-old is still entering the prime years of his career. After all, he is only two seasons removed from his Pro Bowl season in 2016.
