Tragedy struck the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday when one of their players were killed in a road accident. Just before the Super Bowl LII match between the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots commenced, Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson’s untimely death was reported by numerous news outlets, putting a somber mood to a day that was supposed to be dominated by thrill for the Super Bowl.

Jackson was killed along with the driver (Jeffrey Monroe) of the Uber ride he was in when they were hit by a vehicle driven by a drunken man.

Two days after Edwin Jackson’s death, it was reported that Colts owner Jim Irsay will shoulder the funeral expenses for Jackson and Monroe, according to Tim Nichols of Wish TV.

BREAKING: @Colts say team owner @JimIrsay is paying for the funeral of Uber driver Jeffrey Monroe and Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson. They died after being struck by a drunk-driver early Sunday morning.

Jackson, who played college football at Georgia Southern, was not selected by any team during the 2015 NFL Draft, but was later signed by the Arizona Cardinals. He was released by the Cardinals in August of that year before being inked by the Colts to their practice squad. In January of 2016, Jackson signed a reserve/future contract with Indianapolis. Jackson played 16 games in the 2016 season, recording 47 total tackles and two sacks. He did not appear in a single game in the 2017 campaign, as he was placed on the injured reserve because of an undisclosed injury just before the season kicked off.
