Eric Berry wants to return to NFL and the Colts are likely landing spot
The Indianapolis Colts have some major re-tooling to do if they hope to bounce back in the 20202 NFL season. Fortunately, it seems they could be ready to make a splash with the potential signing of safety Eric Berry.
Berry sat out the entire 2019 NFL season preparing for his comeback. According to NFL Network’s Jim Trotter, the Colts have been pegged as the frontrunners to land his services:
NFL Network’s Jim Trotter reports safety Eric Berry wants to return to the NFL after sitting out the 2019 season.
Berry has struggled to find his footing with injuries in recent years. He suffered a torn Achilles in the 2017 NFL season opener and has since spent most of that time getting is body back to 100 percent.
The five-time Pro Bowler was released by the Chiefs last offseason. Although he reportedly did have offers to play, Berry ultimately opted to take the year off in order to give himself adequate time to rest. Fortunately, it appears his plan is starting to come to fruition now that he is looking to get back on the field after avoiding a whole season’s worth of wear and tear.
Berry joining the Colts could provide a major boost to their secondary. Given his recent track record with injuries, the front office may look to bring him in on a prove-it deal where he will have an opportunity to provide them with plenty of bang for their buck. At the very least, his experience should serve as a stabilizing factor for this defense over the top.
