Carson Wentz's exit from the Indianapolis Colts was incredibly messy. After a meh season filled with disappointing games, the Colts decided to trade him to the Washington Commanders. Around the same time, reports about Wentz's relationship with his old coaching staff started to come out, painting the QB in a negative light.

However, on Sunday night, Commanders coach Ron Rivera revealed a surprising message from Frank Reich, Carson Wentz's old coach in Indy. Reich apparently vouched for Wentz, saying he was a good player in his time. (via John Keim)

ā€œHe said, ā€˜You're gonna love this guy ā€¦ He's been a good person first and foremost, I want you to know that.' My intention was to reach out to him but he called to congratulate me.ā€

That's an interesting turn of events, to say the least. Just a few weeks ago, Reich reportedly apologized to the Colts brass for sticking his neck out for Wentz. In the same report, the Colts reportedly had problems with Wentz way before his disastrous game in Jacksonville and subsequent trade to the Commanders.

ā€œAs for the Colts, the issues with Wentz stretched back to before the season began, one source said, and over the course of the year, some grew frustrated at what they deemed a lack of leadership, a resistance to hard coaching and a reckless style of play, which had a role in several close losses this year.ā€

Wentz had moments last season where he flashed his MVP-caliber potential again. However, he still had problems when it comes to accuracy and decision-making. The Commanders hope he can clean up these issues after being traded yet again to a new team.
