The Washington Commanders signaled a desire to get better by bringing in Carson Wentz at quarterback. They already have a solid offensive support system with the likes of Antonio Gibson and Terry McLaurin helping him out. Washington hopes Wentz can use the weapons around him to get them back to the playoffs but they will first have to sign McLaurin to an extension.

According to the Athletic's Grant Paulsen, McLaurin has not received a contract offer yet from the Commanders. Paulsen noted that Washington has a more favorable cap situation in the summer and that the team waited to extend fellow star youngster Jonathan Allen.

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera made it clear that the team wants to keep McLaurin, who has been its leading receiver in each of his three seasons. He recorded 1,053 receiving yards, 77 catches and five receiving touchdowns. Ever since being drafted in the third round of the 2019 draft, he has been one of the best receivers in the NFL.

The 26-year-old McLaurin should receive a big extension from Washington. Having no contract in place seems peculiar, as he is a huge part of their future. Paulsen does note that the talks are ongoing, which is great news for Wentz and the offense.

Washington has seen plenty of key players leave this offseason, including Brandon Scherff, Tim Settle and Matthew Ioannidis. McLaurin is not in danger of doing the same but the Commanders have no business trying to be thrifty when it comes to his deal. They made a big investment in Wentz and need McLaurin in order for it to pay off.
