Contract negotiations between the Dallas Cowboys and their quarterback, Dak Prescott, have stalled as of late, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Said Rapoport: “My understanding is that these Dak Prescott extension talks, which Jerry Jones termed iminent just about a week ago, have reached a little bit of an impass. It went from iminent, now, talking to sources, sounds like not much is doing and it doesn't seem like things will happen for the foreseeable future.

“If you look at a possible reason why, Dallas has signed a lot of their key players to really long-term deals, Zeke Elliott the latest, all those offensive linemen are on long-term deals. Then, look at the recent deals quarterbacks have done… it would make a lot of sense if Dak Prescott is holding out for some of those shorter terms deals to cash-in at a sooner time.”

As Rapoport notes, Prescott is likely holding out due to recent contract extensions given to other quarterbacks. In the offseason, his 2016 NLF Draft mates, Carson Wentz, and Jared Goff both got paid over a four-year deal. Wentz: $128 million, $107 million guaranteed. Goff: $134 million, $110 million guaranteed.

Prescott's contract talks didn't lead to a training camp holdout and visit to Cabo, Mexico, but he is, by most reports, trying to get the most out of the extension, and potentially reel-in a record-breaking deal. After posting a perfect passer rating (158.3), he holds leverage pertaining to his current talent level.

If Dallas doesn't sign Prescott to an extension, he will be a free agent in 2020.
