The Dallas Cowboys have no plans to bail on Dak Prescott, even if they wind up with a top-three selection in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Cowboys VP Stephen Jones gave the injured Prescott his full support on Monday:

Prescott is recovering from a horrifying ankle injury that has sidelined him for the rest of the season. The star quarterback suffered the compound ankle fracture and dislocation during a Week 5 bout against the New York Giants.

While Prescott's injury was horrific, Jones claims he's ahead of schedule in his rehab. That's certainly good news for the Cowboys, who are suffering through a disastrous season.

Prescott was playing like an MVP before his injury. He completed 68.0% of his passes while throwing for over 400 yards in all but two games, one being against the Giants in which he had to exit the contest early. Even so, the Cowboys still struggled mightily to cross the finish line over most of their competition during Prescott's five-game stint this season. They came close to beating a formidable foe in the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3 under Prescott's leadership, but they fell short.

The Cowboys are currently on a four-game losing streak without Prescott, with their latest defeat coming at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 9. While Dallas was able to jump out to an early lead on the undefeated Steelers squad, it proved to be useless as Pittsburgh stormed back for the win. The Cowboys are now 2-7 on the season, which is tied for the third-worst record in the NFL.

The top of the 2021 NFL Draft is stacked with stud quarterbacks, including guys like Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields, among others. But it appears as if the Cowboys plan to roll with Prescott into the future once he's healthy. Dallas will likely franchise tag Prescott again in 2021, and then we'll see if a long-term deal can be worked out at some point.
