The Dallas Cowboys have not yet parted ways with head coach Jason Garrett. However, according to Ed Werder of ESPN, they are expected to do so soon.

Per Werder, Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones have moved slowly with an “abundance of care and respect” for Garrett. That will likely conclude soon, with the two sides parting ways, which will begin the process of searching for a new coach in Dallas.

It's worth noting that Garrett's contract with the Cowboys ends on Jan. 12. Dallas' brass may be waiting for his contract to expire rather than fire him outright.

Nonetheless, Garrett is not expected to be the head coach of America's Team in 2020. That should come as no surprise, as, under his watch, the Cowboys faltered to 8-8 in 2019, missing the playoffs after entering the season with Super Bowl expectations.

In 10 years as the head coach of the Cowboys, Garrett has gone 85-67. Dallas has won three NFC East titles with Garrett at the helm and two out of five playoff games.

It's unknown who the Cowboys will add as their next head coach. Many presume that they will look to the college ranks, potentially hiring Baylor's Matt Rhule, Oklahoma's Lincoln Riley, or the retired Urban Meyer. Or, they will go after a candidate with NFL experience, such as the litter of young offensive coordinators, Mike McCarthy, and others.

Whoever becomes the Cowboys' next head coach will enter the job with great expectations. Dallas has a Super Bowl-caliber roster. If they don't get close to the ultimate goal soon, restlessness among the NFL's biggest fanbase will only grow.
