The Dallas Cowboys are beginning to assemble a talented coaching staff under Mike McCarthy. According to Tom Pelissero, Dallas is hiring the Los Angeles Rams' special teams coach, John Fassel, to the same position.
Fassel has been a special teams coordinator since 2008 with the Oakland Raiders. After his time with the Raiders, Fassel joined the Rams' coaching staff when Jeff Fisher became the head coach when the team was still located in St. Louis.
When Fisher was fired by the Rams in 2016, Fassel actually served as the team's interim head coach. The following season, Los Angeles would hire Sean McVay and Fassel was one of the only assistants that McVay retained for his coaching staff.
The Rams are beginning to shuffle around their coaching staff with Wade Phillips also being let go. There's no doubt that Fassel is going to be missed in Los Angeles by the players and coaches on the roster.
Ever since Fassel has been with the Rams, their special teams unit has been one of the most consistent groups in the NFL. That is great news for fans in Dallas who watched the special teams unit struggle in 2019.
Following the decision to move on from Jason Garrett, the Cowboys are constructing a coaching staff of experienced coaches. Besides Fassel, the Cowboys have already added Mike Nolan as the team's defensive coordinator.
Fans in Dallas have been skeptical of the moves that Jerry Jones was going to make during the offseason. Up to this point, Jones has begun to put together a formidable coaching staff.
