Dallas Cowboys legend Charles Haley didn't hold back in his criticisms of Mike McCarthy after the team's shocking NFL playoff exit.

The Cowboys lost a heartbreaker to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card round of the 2021 postseason. Amusingly after the defeat, McCarthy admitted that his team was nervous heading to the game–confessing that he sensed the nerves during their pregame prayer.

Haley is not buying the reasoning for the defeat, though, as he ripped McCarthy apart and blamed him for not doing his job in preparing the Cowboys.

“Well, if the team was nervous, he didn't do his job during the week,” the five-time Super Bowl winner and Hall of Famer said of McCarthy's admission, per Ed Werder of ESPN.

Charles Haley does have a point. The Cowboys have time to prepare, and it's not like the team is lacking in postseason experience. Not to mention that they are playing at home, with tons of fans rallying them.

There are a lot of fans clamoring for the firing of Mike McCarthy after his playoff disappointment. However, he did respond to those calls with a bold guarantee that they will improve and be better next season–highlighting his belief that they have taken a step to the right direction.

“I understand what goes on here every day. I know how to win. I know how to win in this league. I know how to win playoff games. I know how to win a championship. So I have great confidence in that. What we’ve built here in two seasons, I feel very good about, and I think with that you just stay true to that. The hard part is the personal. We all have kids, so that’s the part that I don’t like. I would hope people are respectful to that,” McCarthy said.

It remains to be seen what the Cowboys will do with McCarthy, but obviously, his recent statements is not winning him fans.
