The Dallas Cowboys have made a few moves during the NFL offseason with the receiving corps now looking much different than it did last year. Among the moves made was the acquisition of veteran wideout Tavon Austin in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams and it appears the team has big plans for the newcomer.
According to Josh Norris of Rotoworld, Austin will be taking on an enormous workload during his first season in Dallas. Quarterback Dak Prescott will be looking his way for the majority of games for the Cowboys in 2018.
Austin spent his first five seasons in the NFL with the Rams. Although Austin had some success in first four seasons in St. Louis and Los Angeles, last season was forgettable, to say the least. The 28-year-old had his worst season to date despite playing all 16 regular season games. He finished with a career-low 13 receptions for 47 receiving yards and was used more coming out of the backfield as he racked up a career-high 270 rushing yards and one touchdown on 59 carries.
The West Virginia product was one of Jeff Fisher's prized players with the Rams, but once the team parted ways with the longtime coach, the same couldn't be said for Austin under new head coach Sean McVay. Los Angeles seemed ready to move on even before last season and although it took a year, he may have landed in an ideal situation in Dallas.
With the Cowboys parting ways with Dez Bryant, Ryan Switzer, and Brice Butler signing with the Arizona Cardinals, Austin will have a chance to shine in Dallas as one of Prescott's primary targets in the passing game. It'll be a make-or-break season for the veteran as he tries to prove his worth after a forgettable 2017 campaign.
