The Dallas Cowboys have a decision to make when it comes to free agents Randy Gregory and Dalton Schultz. They have to choose who to use the franchise tag on, and it's not easy.

However, according to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, it seems the team is leaning more on using the franchise tag on Schultz instead of Gregory. Aside from the Amari Cooper situation that could limit their pass-catching options if they don't keep Schultz, there is the factor of Blake Jarwin potentially missing the start of the 2022 season–making it likelier for Schultz to be the priority.

For what it's worth, though, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN revealed that the Cowboys have every intention of keeping Randy Gregory despite the inclination in using the franchise tag on Dalton Schultz. Interestingly, the general expectation is that he'll stay with the team despite the franchise tag talks.

The Cowboys planned for free agency with two franchise-tag candidates in mind: Schultz and edge rusher Randy Gregory. Schultz is the more likely option, but that's the line of thinking. Still, they don't want to lose Gregory, and many around the league expect him to stay.

The Cowboys have until Tuesday afternoon to make the decision, and it will definitely be interesting on how will they navigate it. While it is understandable why they want to keep Schultz–especially with the possible changes in offensive personnel–it might be difficult for them to keep Gregory like they wish.

Of course Dallas understands they cannot keep everyone, but any move they make will have some consequences one way or another.
