Among the notable areas of concern for the Dallas Cowboys in the offseason is the wide receiver position. The uncertain future of star wideout Dez Bryant has added further speculation regarding their weapons on the outside.

They met with Allen Hurns, among other free-agent wide receivers, yesterday as they looked to make some improvements in that position. However, they ended up signing another wideout they met with as they struck a deal with Deonte Thompson for one year worth up to $2.5 million, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Although he is a little-known name, the 29-year-old Thompson showed plenty of promise throughout the 2017 NFL season. The six-year veteran, who had initially started the year with the Chicago Bears, was released in early October before he was picked up by the Bills the following week.

Despite the midseason transition, the former Florida product flourished in Buffalo as he had 27 catches for 430 yards and a touchdown in 11 games. He finished with 38 catches for 555 yards and two touchdowns for the year, which is easily a career-best campaign.

Thompson will now join a Cowboys receiving corps that was a disappointment last season. Apart from Bryant, Cole Beasley took a significant step back from his terrific 2016 season. Terrance Williams also underwhelmed as he failed to register a touchdown grab all season for the first time in his career.

It remains to be seen just how much of an impact Thompson will have on the offense next season. If he ends up being the team's most significant addition at receiver this offseason, the Cowboys fanbase likely won't be too thrilled.
