The Dallas Cowboys have been stuck in a very difficult situation with superstar running back Ezekiel Elliott. Both sides have been discussing a new contract extension, but nothing has come of those talks. Now, Elliott is holding out of training camp and there are some real concerns in Dallas.
DeAngelo Williams was a very good NFL running back not too long ago and weighed in with his opinion on the situation.
Quite simply, Williams thinks Elliott is “the only player they need to pay.” That is a bold statement considering guys like Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper, and Jaylon Smith are all in line for new deals. Take a look at the segment with Williams discussing Elliott's situation.
There is no denying the fact that the Cowboys have to get something done with Elliott. He has opened up the offense for Prescott and taken a lot of pressure off of the aerial attack. Losing him would be a massive blow for the Cowboys.
On the other hand, Dallas isn't sure that he is worth the big bucks that he is asking for. They invested in some young talent at the running back position in the draft this year and also recently signed veteran running back Alfred Morris. There is talent at the position in Dallas.
Elliott doesn't seem ready to give in anytime soon. He may not go as far as Le'Veon Bell did last season by sitting out the whole season, but it remains an option.
Many won't agree with Williams' bold statement, but Elliott is the face of the franchise in Dallas. They need to do everything they can to get a new deal done soon to get him back in camp.
