When Jerry Jones and his Dallas Cowboys gave Dak Prescott a four-year, $160 million contract in the 2021 offseason, many expressed concerns about the move. After all, Dak hasn't really proven anything, with his winning mentality questionable at best.

With that said, giving him such a contract with a then-record $126 million in guaranteed money was frowned upon.

Now, a year later and after another playoff disappointment for so-called America's team, Jones was asked if he has any regrets about giving such a contract to Prescott. Sure enough, the Cowboys' owner is standing by their decision and is sticking up for the 28-year-old QB.

“When I look at what has happened since we’ve done (Dak’s) contract, the reps, the way Dak has evolved, what we’re doing in here to look for players to complement what he does the best,” Jones said in an interview with Jori Epstein of USA Today. “That’s who, in my mind, we’re complementing whether we’re blocking them out, whether we’re basically trying to get him some field position. So yes, we’re glad we got him.”

Interestingly, Jerry Jones also highlighted the massive payday other QBs got this 2022 offseason. He particularly cited Deshaun Watson's contract with the Cleveland Browns, one that saw the controversial signal-caller get a fully-guaranteed $230 million deal.

For Jones, they are still lucky to have secured Dak Prescott beyond 2022 for less than what other QBs are getting.

“I’m proud we have it. Deshaun’s contract was a big one. Just reinforces that it just takes one or two teams to really covet a player and they really get those numbers on up there,” Jones added.

Of course, upon getting the trust of the Cowboys, it is now up to Prescott to prove he's worth every penny the team is spending on him. While they failed to get past the Wild Card round the past campaign, hopes remain high that they can finally break the team's postseason drought.
