WATCH: Carlos Gonzalez makes insane diving catch in debut with Cubs
The Chicago Cubs signed veteran outfielder and former superstar Carlos Gonzalez to a minor-league a short while ago and officially called him up to the big leagues this afternoon. In his debut, Gonzalez made his presence felt immediately. With the bases loaded, Gonzalez made an insane diving catch to save multiple runs.

Gonzalez used to be one of the biggest stars in baseball. He was a slugger and Gold Glove caliber defender. Chicago may not have that version of him, but it is clear that he still has some good baseball left in him.
Right after the catch, star pitcher Jon Lester showed his appreciation for the newest Cubs’ outfielder. He raised his arms in celebration. Instead of what likely would have been a bases clearing double, Gonzalez limited the Angels to just one run on a sacrifice fly and no other runners advanced.
At 33 years old, Gonzalez is hoping to revitalize his career with the Cubs. He likely won’t be an every day player right off the bat, but there is a chance that he could work his way into that role in the future.
Chicago has to feel very good about their first game from Gonzalez. Joe Maddon and company have always been open to giving players second chances and perhaps a change of scenery and the friendly confines of Wrigley Field can help Gonzalez get back to where he needs to be.
The Cubs seem like a contender this season, although they have had some ups and downs already. Gonzalez could end up being a major steal.
