Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler is on the road to recovery. Buehler underwent elbow reconstruction surgery just over a year ago and has yet to appear in 2023; however, it seems that the Dodgers are at least considering the possibility of a return later this season.

According to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, Walker Buehler will undergo a rehabilitation assignment with affiliate Oklahoma City on Sunday. He is slated to throw one or two innings, per Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times.

Roberts also noted that the team will need to give Buehler at least three rehab stints before they can further consider where he might fit into the rest of this season's equation with the main squad.

Buehler has been active for quite some time now, throwing to Dodgers hitters at practice as far back as the beginning of this month, per Sports Illustrated. His theoretical return could spell great things for the Dodgers, who are just wrapping up what has been a red-hot month of August.

Over the last thirty days, the Dodgers have opened up a whopping 14.5-game lead in the NL West over the second-place San Francisco Giants. Los Angeles currently has the second-best record in all of baseball behind only the Atlanta Braves, who they will be hosting in a series this weekend.

It certainly wouldn't be a surprise to see those two teams meeting up once again in just over a month when the MLB playoffs are in full swing. With any luck, it looks like Walker Buehler may indeed be back in the lineup when that time comes.
