The Miami Dolphins handed Josh Rosen the keys to the car on Thursday, starting against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers over Ryan Fitzpatrick. But, that may have been a one-time thing, as Fitzpatrick appears poised to start in preseason Week 3, against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

According to the Miami Herald‘s Adam Beasley, head coach Brian Flores said that the 36-year-old Fitzpatrick would “probably start” in the third preseason game. The third game is often a “dress rehearsal” for the regular season, as starters get solidified and play for longer than a quarter or drive.

“I’m here,” Fitzpatrick said, per Beasley. “Whatever coach wants to do. Whenever he wants to put me in or not put me in, I’m ready to play. Whatever he wants, I’m here for.”

That ultimately means that Rosen likely won't start Week 1 for Miami, despite the Dolphins trading a 2019 second-round pick to secure his services.

Both Rosen and Fitzpatrick have seen their fair share of starting snaps in the preseason. Fitzpatrick started the first, Rosen took the second.

Over two weeks of play, Rosen has looked a bit more capable than Fitzpatrick. In his first game, Rosen went 13-for-20 for 191 yards and an interception. In his second, the former first-round pick threw 10-for-18 for 102 yards.

As for Fitzpatrick, he hasn't enjoyed an exactly productive preseason. In his first game, he threw 2-for-5 for 20 yards and no scores or interceptions. In his second, he again threw for 20 yards, going 3-for-9 and not turning the ball over nor scoring. Nonetheless, Flores seems to favor him and his experience.
