With the 2023 NFL season in its infancy, there is no better time for fans and pundits to have high hopes and make prognoses regarding certain teams' chances of making some noise in the playoffs. That's exactly what two Boston Celtics legends in Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce did on the KG Certified podcast on SHOWTIME Basketball, with the two trading their contrasting opinions regarding the playoff chances of two AFC East teams, the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots.

Garnett was ardent in his support for the Dolphins, as he believes that they will be able to build off of their Wild Card finish last season. The former Celtics big man thinks that it'll be the Dolphins that more likely challenges the Buffalo Bills for the AFC East crown, not the Patriots.

“Miami gonna it make it probably before the Pats, bro,” Garnett told Pierce, who claimed instead that the Patriots are in a better position with regards to making the 2023 postseason. “Miami better than the Pats this year, bro.”

The two ended up agreeing to disagree, with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce placing their bets on the Dolphins and Patriots, respectively, even shaking their hands after coming to terms with each other's opinion. Based on whichever team makes the playoffs, one will be treating the other to Mastro's — the famous steakhouse.

“I got Pats this year. Bill Belichick still there. You must have forgot,” Pierce said.

It'll certainly be interesting to keep an eye out on which team will make the playoffs between the Dolphins and Patriots. The Dolphins are certainly the more favored team between the two, with the latest ClutchPoints NFL Power Rankings placing them at eighth place thanks to the overwhelming belief that Tua Tagovailoa will ascend even further. Meanwhile, the Patriots are down all the way at 26th place, with pundits being bearish over the team's lack of quarterback star power and assuredness as well as the lack of top-level depth across multiple positions.

The safe money is definitely on Kevin Garnett's bet. But in the NFL, anything can happen, especially when Bill Belichick is still at the Patriots' helm.
