New Miami Dolphins quarterback Josh Rosen has received heat in the past for asking coaches why a play was being run. Coaches in the past have felt challenged by Rosen and not liked it, but the Dolphins are encouraging him to ask as many as he needs.

Back in November Rosen said he wouldn't run a play unless he knew why it was being run.

“I will not run a play on a football field unless I know why we're running it and what we're trying to accomplish,” Rosen said via ESPN. “That's just how I function. I don't run a 4.5 [-second 40-yard dash], so if things go bad, I can't just hit the exit button. So I like to understand a playbook in its entirety.”

Dolphins coach Brian Flores likes when his players ask questions and Rosen won't ever get questioned about why he is questioning authority.

“I want my players to want to know the why. I think in order to get a player to really believe in what he's doing, he should know why,” coach Brian Flores said via Cameron Wolfe of ESPN. “I think that's coaching. If players don't ask why, they should be asking why. Is it through doing what we ask them to do? Yes. Should they ask why they're doing it so they can believe in a little bit more? I think so. I've always kind of challenged my players to ask why. I challenge my coaches to be able to give them an answer as to why.”

This is a good sign that Flores and Rosen seem to be on the same page because that should make the two guys better communicators. It's still to be seen if that will result in wins but the relationship between the two guys seems to be off to a good start.
