The Miami Dolphins' quarterback controversy has been settled; Ryan Fitzpatrick is the starter, Josh Rosen is the backup, and Jake Rudock is released, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The move means Brian Flores will walk into the 2019 regular season with two quarterbacks on the roster.

Rudock, a former Michigan man, spent his first three NFL seasons with the Detroit Lions. He's completed three of his five NFL pass attempts for a grand total of 24 yards.

The Dolphins started Rudock in the preseason finale; he came out with a win over the New Orleans Saints, passing 22-of-29 for 229 yards and a score.

After his performance, Dolphins Wire's Kyle Crabbs was left impressed, as he said while calling him a winner of the game:

“Are the Dolphins going to keep three quarterbacks on the roster? No, it’s not likely. But boy, Jake Rudock is going to make them think about it. Rudock went wire to wire against the Saints and was impressive throughout, showing mobility, good decision making and some accuracy on the run. Rudock hasn’t been able to fully latch on with a team after entering the NFL through the 2016 NFL Draft, but he’s made a strong, positive impression here in Miami.”

Over the entirety of the preseason, Rudock threw 34-of-48 for 366 yards, 3 touchdowns, and an interception.

Though the 26-year-old is now devoid of a spot in Miami, he's shown promise in his first four years in the NFL and should land on his feet for a team needing a backup shot-caller.
