The Miami Dolphins held a team scrimmage on Saturday and the coaches got a decent look at Tua Tagovailoa under center. According to The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson, Tagovailoa has yet to outperform Josh Rosen during training camp.

Before the scrimmage began, Ryan Fitzpatrick walked off of the field and was noticeably desolate. It has since been reported that Fitzpatrick's mother passed away and his return to the team is uncertain. We wish the best for Fitzpatrick and his family during these times.

With Fitzpatrick unable to practice, Tagovailoa and Rosen received plenty of opportunities to prove themselves. While both of them compete for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart, it appears that neither of them has done enough to secure the job.

Seeing that Tagovailoa is a rookie, the news of neither of them outperforming the other is likely more of a detriment for Rosen. Rosen is entering his third season in the NFL and his second with the Dolphins.

Also, Tagovailoa is still less than a year removed from undergoing hip surgery in his final collegiate season at Alabama. Provided that, it's expected that he will need time to get acclimated to playing football again — especially at the NFL level.

After being selected with the No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Tagovailoa is seen as the future franchise quarterback of the Dolphins. Not long after he was drafted, his jersey was flying off of the shelves due to his potential in the NFL. However, fans of the Dolphins may want to temper expectations for the first-year quarterback entering the 2020 season.
