The Miami Dolphins came up just short of reaching the playoffs, but there is little doubt as to who the starting quarterback will be in 2021.

Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said Tuesday Tua Tagovailoa will be under center to start the 2021 campaign, barring injury or other misfortune:

“Tua, I'm very happy with,” Grier said, via Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald. “He's our starting quarterback.”

Miami's quarterback carousel has garnered more attention in the past few weeks for a couple different reasons.

For starters, Tagovailoa struggled at the end of the regular season for the Dolphins. He had four interceptions–including three this past weekend against the Buffalo Bills–and just two interceptions in the past three weeks, and had a hard time moving the ball through the air.

Tua completed 20 of his 26 pass attempts in a Week 15 win over the New England Patriots, but those completions went for a mere 145 yards, or 5.58 yards gained per pass attempt. The following week was hardly any better, as Tagovailoa had 94 yards passing on 22 attempts and was ultimately benched in favor of veteran signal-caller Ryan Fitzpatrick, who orchestrated more “Fitzmagic” to help Miami defeat the Las Vegas Raiders.

The other element to this plot line is the Dolphins own the 2021 first-rounder of the Houston Texans, which they acquired in the Laremy Tunsil trade. That pick will be No. 3 overall due to Houston's struggles this season.

There are any number of quality quarterback prospects in the upcoming class even after Trevor Lawrence, including Zach Wilson and Justin Fields.

However, Grier suggested the Dolphins will roll with Tagovailoa going forward as the team strives to be competitive on a regular basis.
