Former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton shocked the football world when he announced he was stepping down. It was initially thought that he might be retiring, but later reports were that he likely was not done coaching. Those rumors are only more likely to spur up now as recent reports have a list of teams he would prefer to coach for.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald referenced unnamed sources that reveal the Miami Dolphins, along with the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Chargers as the three teams he would most like to coach for, as noted by NBC Sports.

According to Jackson, Payton would not actively pursue a team that currently has a head coach. That makes this news even more interesting, considering all three teams appear at least somewhat invested in their coaches. The Dolphins just signed Mike McDaniel to be their head coach this offseason. The Chargers have a young, sharp mind at the helm in Brandon Staley and the Cowboys of course have Mike McCarthy.

Jackson noted that the three factors Payton was taking into consideration were warm weather, the ability to contend and being able to make personnel decisions.

Sean Payton has already been linked to Dallas numerous times. Knowing how much Jerry Jones likes to meddle in the day-to-day of the Cowboys organization, Dallas would be an interesting fit. The Dolphins have a revamped team with a ton of aspiration. However, if they fall flat on their face this season, it might end up being the most likely scenario for Payton.
