Denis Villeneuve promises that Dune: Part Two will have plenty of action.
A “more muscular” sequel
Speaking to Total Film, Villeneuve promises that Dune: Part Two is “more of an action movie” and “more muscular” than its predecessor.
“The first movie was more meditative and contemplative. We were following a young man discovering a new planet, a new culture,” he revealed. “The second movie… it's more of an action film than the first part. It's more muscular.”
We will have to wait a while before we see the action-packed Dune sequel. The film was originally supposed to come out this past November, but the SAG-AFTRA strike caused several shifts. It was originally pushed back to March 15, 2024, before being brought up two weeks to March 1, 2024.
The film will continue the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) as he unites with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen. He is still seeking revenge against those who tore his family apart.
Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem, and Stellan Skarsgård will all reprise their roles from the first film. Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, and Léa Seydoux will all make their franchise debuts in the sequel.
Denis Villeneuve is an Oscar-nominated director. Dune had garnered 10 Oscar nominations, winning six of them. Among the categories it lost were Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay for Villeneuve.
Some of his other notable works include Prisoners, Enemy, and Sicario. Villeneuve has also flexed his sci-fi muscles with films like Arrival, Blade Runner 2024, and, of course, Dune.
