Despite his numerous bouts with injuries this seasons, Detroit Pistons star Blake Griffin is not considered to be a shut down candidate by his team. This according to Pistons head coach Dwane Casey himself.

According to the 62-year-old shot-caller, he believes that shutting Griffin down for an extended period will only do more harm than good, considering his star's particular type of injury.

“That’s our hope, the rest, the play,” Casey said, via Ansar Kah  of mlive. “The idea that you just take off and rest is not good either for anybody that has tendinitis or whatever it is. You still have to work those muscles and get them to firing and used to firing. That’s the process he’s going through now.”

Griffin just hasn't looked right all season long, and as it turns out, this knee problem may have been the culprit all along. This is exactly why there were some whispers about the six-time All-Star being shut down by the Pistons up an until he becomes one hundred percent healthy. Obviously, coach Casey is not a fan of this theory, and has been quick to shoot it down completely.

Nevertheless, it is worth noting that what Casey may be talking about here is the team's plans for Griffin for the short term. It is still a very big possibility, though, that the former Rookie of the Year gets shut down at some point in the season, especially if the Pistons continue on their downward spiral.

Right now, Detroit is on a five-game losing streak, and are in possession of an 11-20 record, which is currently two and a half games outside the playoffs picture in the East.
