Calvin Ridley's suspension from the NFL next season sent shockwaves around the league. The Atlanta Falcons star, who missed most of last season due to personal reasons, was barred from playing in 2022 due to gambling on NFL games during his absence. It was a big talking point amongst fans, and one Philadelphia Eagles player is already questioning the suspension.

Darius Slay, the Eagles' Pro Bowl cornerback, tweeted out his thoughts on the Calvin Ridley situation. Slay pointed out that Ridley's season-long ban is a stronger punishment than what the NFL handed out to some players with alleged domestic abuse cases.

“Just been on my mind lately… the NFL is suspending Ridley for the whole yr but dudes out here beating up females an getting suspended 6 games!!”

Slay's tweet could be interpreted as being in support of Ridley or criticizing the NFL institution in general. Either way, the Eagles CB's tweet is a valid criticism. The league has often come under fire from outside fans regarding the severity of their punishments. Several high-profile players have had domestic abuse cases filed against them, but the league's sanctions on them were considerably light.

Will the Eagles cornerback's tweet change anything about Ridley's punishment? No, probably not. Despite Ridley being away from the team and being unable to influence the outcome of the games, the NFL insists on punishing the star receiver. It makes sense: letting a player of Ridley's caliber off with a slap on the wrist punishment could set a bad precedent.

However, if they are going to go this hard against Ridley, they need to show the same conviction with other domestic abuse cases.
