The Philadelphia Eagles are tasked with slowing down DeAndre Hopkins on Sunday and they'll have to do so without their best cornerback. Just a day before Philadelphia's game with the Arizona Cardinals, the Eagles have ruled out Darius Slay due to a concussion.

Slay sustained a concussion late in Philadelphia's upset victory over the New Orleans Saints last week. The veteran cornerback was unable to practice during the week and he won't make the flight with the Eagles to face the Cardinals on Sunday.

In his first season in Philadelphia, Slay has somewhat struggled in coverage, being tasked with covering some of the NFL's best wideouts. The All-Pro cornerback has recorded 55 tackles and five pass breakups in his 13 games this season.

Over the past three weeks, Slay has had to cover the likes of D.K. Metcalf, Davante Adams, and Michael Thomas. If he were able to suit up on Sunday versus the Cardinals, he undoubtedly would have drawn the responsibility of covering Hopkins.

Besides Slay, Avonte Maddox is going to be inactive for the Eagles with a knee ailment. Provided that, Philadelphia will be extremely shorthanded in the secondary as they prepare to slow down the wide receiver with the third-most receptions in the league this season.

Stopping or containing Hopkins is easier said than done with the Cardinals conjuring up a variety of ways to get him involved in the passing attack. But with Slay sidelined with a concussion, the Eagles defense may need more from their pass rush if they hope to keep Kyler Murray and Hopkins in check.
