Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson is proud of his team's chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie for establishing a dialogue on race.

Jackson said some of his Caucasian teammates, like Carson Wentz and Zach Ertz, made strong statements in support of Black Americans and he also lauded Lurie for exerting his influence and taking a stance on race issues.

Lurie put out a lengthy statement on Tuesday in which he said he was “heartbroken and repulsed” by the acts of police brutality and racism while also encouraging the public to engage in discussions.

Lurie also had some of these discussions with his own team, orchestrating a virtual meeting with coaches and players to speak on issues of race and inequality.

Jackson himself reportedly made “particularly moving” comments (via Tim McManus of ESPN):

“What followed was what participants described as ‘powerful' dialogue led by the players, with wide receiver DeSean Jackson, quarterback Carson Wentz, safety Rodney McLeod, defensive tackle Malik Jackson and tight end Zach Ertz among those who addressed the team. Eagles coaches joined the conversation, as well.

“DeSean Jackson's words proved particularly moving, prompting Jason Kelce to take to social media to post his thoughts.”

Like so many other major cities around the country, Philadelphia has also been the site of a number of public protests and demonstrations.

Former Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins — one of the most outspoken athletes in terms of social activism — participated in a protest in the city on Tuesday.

Lurie has clearly made an effort to establish a greater sense of understanding and unity among the players and coaches in his locker room.

Jackson stated it is imperative people with Lurie's kind of influence show this kind of commitment to having a dialogue and allowing players like him to speak their minds openly.
