It has been nothing short of a struggle for Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles to get back on the field over the last several weeks due to a nagging hamstring injury.

Despite these continued issues, head coach Doug Pederson has voiced that he's confident that Sproles will be able to play again at some point this season, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

“He’s definitely a day-by-day case,” Pederson said. “We continue to work him out and put him through a rigid protocol. I’m not going to get into the details of the injury and all that, but he continues to work, and again, he’s one of those guys that with that type of injury, you want to make sure that it’s definitely 100 percent. . . . There’s nothing really beyond that. It’s just a matter of getting that thing right.

Pederson said he thinks Sproles will play again this year.

“I believe each day he gets better, he gets stronger, so we lead up to that,” Pederson said.

The 35-year-old had agreed to a one-year deal to return to the Eagles for the 2018 season after missing nearly all of the 2017 campaign due to a broken arm and torn ACL on the same play against the New York Giants. The hope was that he would be able to make a notable impact out of the backfield like has done throughout his career behind his speed and big-play ability in both the running and passing game.

However, he has been hampered by a hamstring injury that doesn't appear to be inching any closer to him being able to once again take the field. The Eagles have been quite precautious with the situation given the type of ailment he is dealing with that can linger on even longer if not handled correctly.

Ultimately, this something that Philadelphia will continue to keep an eye with the intent on getting Sproles back into the mix at some point in the second half of the season.
