While his inexperience showed in the playoffs, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts impressed in his first season as the first-string signal-caller. According to GM Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni, Hurts showed more than enough to be handed the keys to the offense once again in 2022.
Asked if Jalen Hurts has done enough to be the starting QB in 2022, #Eagles GM Howie Roseman says yes: "We wanted to see him take the bull by the horns. He did that." pic.twitter.com/QPIjb9dTsR

Sirianni says of Hurts, "Jalen knows where he stands with us. He knows he's our quarterback… there's no secrets there. He knows he's our guy."

For what it's worth, there hasn't exactly been a lot of talk about who could potentially take over as QB1 of the Eagles. After all, Hurts did get them back to the postseason with a 9-8 record. But, the 23-year-old was terrible against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round, completing just 23 of 43 passes for 258 yards and just one touchdown. He also threw two interceptions and was sacked twice.
Nevertheless, the Eagles took a step in the right direction with Hurts at the helm. He threw for over 3,000 yards during the regular season and had a 61% completion rate in his first campaign as a true starter. It is important to acknowledge however that he was playing with an injured ankle vs. Tampa, which certainly played a part in his struggles.
Hurts also formed a formidable partnership with rookie wideout and former teammate at Alabama, Devonta' Smith. He led Philly with five receiving touchdowns and a team-high 64 receptions and 916 yards. The Eagles barely got him involved in the playoffs though, which was heavily criticized after the game.
For now, Jalen Hurts looks like the right man for the job. Let's hope he can take another step ahead in 2022.
