Malcolm Jenkins has been absent from much of the Eagles' offseason work so far, and it appears that will continue even longer. According to Howard Eskin of WIP, Jenkins is not expected to be with the team for the start of on-field OTA work today.

ESPN's Adam Schefter also noted the absence, adding this is the first time in Jenkins' career he has done so. The absence is notable in that regard.

Jenkins has not made it public as to why he has not shown up to offseason workouts. However, there has been speculation that he is seeking a new contract:

The 31-year-old has two years remaining on his current deal, which will pay him $8.1 million and $7.6 million, respectively, over the next two seasons. It's a decent contract, but one that has quickly become below-market value as safeties around the league received sizable pay raises.

According to Zack Rosenblatt of NJ Advance Media, Jenkins ranks 10th among safeties in average salary in 2019.

That number is well below the $14 million that others received this offseason, and it's easy to understand why Jenkins would want more, though it is important to note he hasn't said any of this himself.

Jenkins has been selected to the Pro Bowl in three of the last four seasons and is coming off a year in which he recorded 97 tackles, eight pass breakups, one interception, three forced fumbles, and one sack. He also has not missed a game since joining the Eagles in 2014.

The Eagles will hold their mandatory minicamp from June 11-13.
