Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Marquise Goodwin has chosen to sit out the shortened 2020 NFL season citing concerns about the ongoing pandemic. The decision was published in a tweet by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The move was to be expected as Goodwin has a five-month old baby daughter. He and his wife have previously suffered from three miscarriages in the past.

In 2017, the couple lost an infant son due to pregnancy complications. Just hours before his son’s passing, Goodwin landed the 49ers’ first win of the season over the Giants.

As he ran for the touchdown he was seen sending a kiss to the sky before falling on his knees when he landed in the endzone.

Here is a clip of the emotional moment:

A year after, the Goodwins lost twin boys due to preterm labor.

Goodwin was acquired by the Eagles in a trade before the 2020 NFL Draft. Before that, he was one the quickest receivers for the 49ers for three seasons.

The 49ers and the Eagles traded their sixth-round picks in a deal in late April. San Francisco sent Goodwin and the No. 210 pick to Philadelphia for its No. 190 pick.

Goodwin has already informed the team and proper league authorities of his decision. It seems it’s going to be a while before we see him don Eagle colors, but of course, as Rapoport writes, “Family is the most important”.

The Eagles are set to kick off the season on September 13 against the Washington football team.
