It was their first year since 2015 without quarterback Carson Wentz and also the first year under head coach Nick Sirianni.</p><p>The team significantly improved from the 4-11-1 from the previous year, jumping to 9-8 and returning to the playoffs after a one-year absence.</p><p>After the experiment in 2021, the Eagles are in good position to win the NFC East and make a deep postseason run thanks to their talented roster. It all starts with the tests during the preseason.</p><p>Philadelphia hosts the New York Jets on Friday for its preseason opener. Although the final score might not have much impact, it can be a sign of what is to come for the Eagles in the regular season.</p><p>So, here are some bold Eagles predictions for their preseason opener against the Jets on Friday night.</p><h2><b>Philadelphia Eagles Preseason Week 1 Predictions</b></h2><p><b>4. Fans will get a taste of the Hurts-Brown connection</b></p><p>Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni <a href="https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/football/news/eagles-jalen-hurts-will-get-snaps-in-preseason-opener/" rel="noopener">recently announced</a> that the healthy offensive players will get at least some playing time against the Jets. That means that fans will finally have their first look at the new<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/eagles-news-qb-jalen-hurts-gets-real-on-early-chemistry-with-a-j-brown-ahead-of-2022-season/" rel="noopener"> partnership</a> between Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown.</p><p>The wide receiver had almost 3,000 total receiving yards in his three seasons with the Tennessee Titans. He had 24 touchdowns thorough the air and one on the ground. Brown ended up making the Pro Bowl in 2020.</p><p>Hurts is coming off his first season as the full-time starting quarterback following the departure of Carson Wentz. In 2021, the former Oklahoma Sooner had 3,144 passing yards with a completion rate of 61.3%. He also had 16 touchdowns against nine interceptions. One of his best features, Hurts ran for 784 yards and scored 10 times.</p><p>Training camp has been very promising for the duo, and it could indicate a bright future in Philadelphia. Offense will slightly struggle against rookie Sauce Gardner</b></p><p>Although it is just preseason, some players should be eager to show what they can bring to the table. One of them is Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner, who was selected No. 4 in this year’s NFL Draft. The former Cincinnati Bearcat is listed as the team’s CB1 with Bryce Hall, so if he wants to prove he can officially take over the position, he has to prove on the field.</p><p>Unfortunately for Philadelphia fans, that means the Eagles’ offense will face a hungry rookie. Gardner had three interceptions in each of his seasons in college and a total of 16 pass deflections, so do not be surprised if those things happen on Friday.</p><p>As the backups should get many snaps, they will likely have problems avoiding Gardner’s defensive abilities. If the rookie starts, the matchup against A.J. Brown should be a must-see, even if it won’t last very long.</p><p><b>2. Rookie Cam Jurgens will show he is the center of the future</b></p><p>After 122 consecutive games starting at center, veteran Jason Kelce’s streak might be in jeopardy. The five-time Pro Bowler suffered an elbow injury and is out indefinitely. He ended up undergoing a “routine cleanout” on Tuesday to relieve his discomfort.</p><p>At 34 years old, Kelce was considering retirement before signing a one-year deal worth $14 million, making him the highest-paid center in the NFL.</p><p>With this being perhaps his final year with the team, Philadelphia ended up selecting Cam Jurgens in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The rookie out of Nebraska has been replacing Kelce in practice and should be the starter against the Jets on Friday.</p><p>Fans will have their first look on what Jurgens can bring to the team, and he will potentially show his best and convince the coaching staff that he is part of the team’s long-term future. With uncertainty surrounding Kelce, Jurgens’ preseason performance will be key to his place on the team in his rookie campaign.</p><p><b>1. The third-string quarterback battle will be the focus of the game</b></p><p>With Jalen Hurts not expected to play much, the backup quarterbacks will lead the team on Friday.</p><p>Gardner Minshew started two games in his first season with the Eagles in 2021. He totaled 439 yards with a completion rate of 68.3%. The former Jaguar had one touchdown and one pick. Due to his experience and his time with the team, Minshew will likely be the immediate backup to Hurts.</p><p>That means that the real competition will be for the third spot at quarterback for the 53-man roster. Reid Sinnett spent last season with the Eagles but failed to make an appearance. Undrafted rookie Carson Strong joined the team after leading the Nevada Wolf Pack to a 20-10 record throughout his college career.</p><p>The preseason opener could be the game in which both will earn significantly a significantly higher number of snaps. All 32 teams at this stage of the year believe their roster has what it takes to be a competitor in 2022. If they don’t feel that way, should they really be in the field of professional sports? While the Jets were no strangers to generating some headlines during the offseason, New York really believes they have the right man for the job in Coach Saleh. With Saleh leading the troops, the Jets may be a sneaky pick to be the most improved team in the NFL by season’s end.</p><p>To kick off the offseason, the Jets wasted no time in building a foundation around their budding quarterback. In this year’s draft, New York selected Ohio State standout, Garrett Wilson, at wideout and running back Breece Hall to put a surplus of weapons on the field whenever they possess the ball on offense. They also came to terms with C.J. Uzomah to pair with the dynamic duo of Corey Davis and Elijah Moore.</p><p>Defensively, the Jets went all in by selecting cornerback Sauce Gardner, who hands down had the most swaggy name out of all of the players in the 2022 NFL Draft. Simply put, Gardner was a terrorizing defensive back during his time at Cincinnati and will try to give off his best Darrelle Revis impersonation now as a member of the Jets.</p><p>Not to mention, but the Jets’ ability to cover the spread will fall on the shoulders of Zach Wilson in this one. Wilson is only expected to play in a couple of series, but a strong outing from the BYU product could give him the confidence he needs moving forward.</p><h2><b>Why The Eagles Could Cover The Spread</b></h2><p>If there is one NFL franchise that has the utmost belief in their quarterback situation, look no further than the Philadelphia Eagles. While it become obvious late in the season that Jalen Hurts biggest thing to work on in the offseason was his accuracy from within the pocket, Philly decided to invest fully into Hurts on offense. This could not have been more true after the Eagles decided to trade for Titans star wideout A.J. Brown, who is coming off a 2021 season in which he reeled in 63 receptions for 869 yards and five touchdowns. No doubt, Philadelphia is hoping he can build off of those numbers by becoming the Eagles’ number one receiver and possibly even eclipse the 1,000 receiving yards mark.</p><p>Additionally, the Eagles also are equipped with 2021 Heisman winner DeVonta Smith at the other receiver position as well as tight end Dallas Goedert and Miles Sanders out of the backfield to increase the potency of this offense. Finding a way to get any of these playmakers in space should be priority number one for offensive coordinator Shane Steichen (say that ten times fast).</p><p>Not to mention, but the depth on defense is what stands out ahead of Friday night’s showdown. Philadelphia is loaded with skilled names in the secondary, and they are also absolutely stacked on the defensive line. This depth should be on full display tomorrow night as we should see many playmakers get a shot to stand out in the Eagles’ opening preseason game. Be on the lookout for freak linebacker Nakobe Dean to make his presence felt as well. The reigning Butkus award winner at Georgia fell to the Eagles with the 83rd overall pick in the draft and could prove to be a steal if Dean lives up to expectations.</p><h2><b>Final Jets-Eagles Prediction &amp; Pick</b></h2><p>When it comes to Friday night’s opening preseason matchup against the Jets, fans and bettors should expect this one to be a stalemate. Davis was arguably the best defensive tackle in the draft. That did not rub Davis the right way and he addressed it after practice Wednesday.</p><p>“I hate it honestly. It’s very one-sided. You see one rep, but you don’t see Cam . . . getting me in the other reps,” Davis said, via Jeff McLane of the <a href="https://twitter.com/Jeff_McLane/status/1557477898549923840">Philadelphia Inquirer</a>. “I always say looks can be deceiving. One rep goes viral — whatever, whoop de woo. Cam was holding his own.”</p><p>Jurgens was a standout in college himself, earning Third Team All Big Ten.. He played center for Nebraska, who almost always has one of the better offensive lines in the nation.</p><p>But Davis is another animal entirely. He took on double teams for most of last season with the Bulldogs, but wreaked havoc on opposing offenses. Jordan Davis is 6-foot-6, 340 pounds and moves like a man half that size.</p><p>This was obviously the correct approach for Davis to take. But that also doesn’t mean playing against another team for the first time since last December is irrelevant either.</p><p>“It’s really the first time 31 other teams get to see your tape,” Saleh <a href="https://www.newyorkjets.com/video/robert-saleh-training-camp-press-conference-8-10-x1242">said Wednesday</a>. “Really dive into the playbook, making sure you’re on your P’s and Q’s and executing at the highest level, giving yourself the best chance to put your best foot forward.”</p><p>It will be a night for the Jets to evaluate their depth and for second and third stringers to show what they’ve got.</p><p>Here’s a look at what could happen against the Eagles.</p><h2><b>Jets Preseason Week 1 Predictions</b></h2><p><b>Max Mitchell will be the most scrutinized rookie</b></p><p>That’s right. Max Mitchell, the Jets fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, will attract more attention than New York’s three first-rounders — corner Sauce Gardner, wide receiver Garrett Wilson and defensive end Jermaine Johnson – and running back Breece Hall, who was selected in the second round.</p><p>The reason is simple. Saleh said Wednesday that Mitchell is in the running to replace Mekhi Becton as the starting right tackle. Becton sustained a likely <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/jets-news-everything-happens-for-a-reason-mekhi-becton-breaks-silence-as-new-york-reveal-likely-season-ending-knee-injury/">season-ending chip fracture</a> in his right kneecap earlier in the week. Pineiro impressed the coaching staff late last season by making all eight of his field goals in five games, including a 51-yarder.</p><p><b>Zonovan Knight and Will Parks will continue to impress</b></p><p>Undrafted free agent running back Zonovan Knight has made one big play after another in training camp. That trend continued last Saturday in the Green-White scrimmage. And if form holds, it will happen again against the Eagles.</p><p>Knight is a long shot to make the Jets roster, but a good bet to be signed to the practice squad if he gets cut and isn’t signed by another team. The former North Carolina State back is a shifty runner, decent receiver and good return specialist. There’s just not a lot of opportunity for him on the 53-man roster with Breece Hall, Michael Carter, Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson and likely La’Mical Perine ahead of him on the depth chart.</p><p>Will Parks is also in a battle to earn a roster spot at safety. He’s been a playmaker throughout camp and has stood out with several impressive interceptions. For a team that struggled so much turning the opposition over last season, Parks’ play has opened eyes in training camp.</p><p>Parks is entering his seventh NFL season and could be competing with Elijah Riley if the Jets carry five safeties. As a result, Philadelphia made a move to bolster their running back depth on Wednesday. <a href="https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/1557439456134692864">NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports</a> that the Eagles are signing running back DeAndre Torrey.</p><p>Torrey participated in a workout with the team and obviously showed enough to get signed. He played his college ball at North Texas and drew some interest following his college career.</p><p>He enjoyed a tremendous freshman season at North Texas in 2018. He tallied 17 total touchdowns (15 rushing) to go along with just under 1,000 rushing yards. After a pair of down seasons in 2019 and 2020, Torrey impressed once again in his fourth year. He scored 14 total touchdowns (13 rushing) and ran for over 1,200 yards.</p><p>Torrey only stands 5’7, but features explosive athleticism and speed out of the backfield. His elusiveness is a key aspect of his game.</p><p>For the Eagles, this represents a low-risk, high-reward move. If DeAndre Torrey impresses during the preseason, he could earn a spot on the 53-man roster. And down the road he is someone who could become a reliable NFL running back. However, if he falters during the preseason, Philadelphia can keep him on the practice squad. But given their injuries, taking a flier on Torrey makes sense.</p><p>The Eagles are aiming for a successful 2022 campaign. They displayed signs of potential by finishing with a 9-8 record last season. There is no official timetable for his return to play, though a league source indicated it was realistic that he will be ready for the season opener against the Detroit Lions on Sept. 11.”</p><p>“There is no official timetable for his return to play.” That’s an easy way to scare an entire city! In all seriousness, McManus goes on to report that it’s “realistic” that Jason Kelce will be on the field for the Eagles in Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season against the Detroit Lions.</p><p>That’s at least encouraging for the Eagles, whose training camp injury report has ballooned lately. The likes of DeVonta Smith, Kenneth Gainwell, Boston Scott and tight end Grant Calcaterra are all managing injuries, as well as Jordan Mailata and Andre Dillard.</p><p>Kelce, 34, has been a mainstay on the Eagles’ line since he was selected in the sixth round of the 2011 draft. He’s made five Pro Bowls and has earned All-Pro honors four times.</p><p>The veteran lineman was the anchor for a dominant Eagles offensive line in 2021. One player who could end up being one of the biggest surprises this year is Dallas Goedert.</p><p>The 27-year-old was drafted by the Eagles in the second round of the 2018 draft. He has spent four seasons with the team and has seen his role grow each year. Last season he had <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/G/GoedDa00.htm">56 receptions</a> for a career-high 830 yards. Goedert took a massive leap forward in his production in the offense following the Eagles’ decision to trade away Zach Ertz. The former Super Bowl Champ spent the first six games of the season with Philadelphia before being traded to the Cardinals. While Goedert played a role in the Eagles’ offense even with Ertz on the team, he now has a chance to soar to new heights as the primary tight end for a full season.</p><h2>Dallas Goedert’s Fantasy Football outlook for the 2022 NFL season</h2><p>According to <a href="https://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/rankings/te-cheatsheets.php">Fantasypros</a>, Dallas Goedert is ranked as the 6th best tight end heading into the 2022 NFL season. He trails Travis Kelce, Mark Andrews, Kyle Pitts, George Kittle, Darren Waller, and Dalton Schultz on the list. Goedert finished as the number eight ranked tight end according to their scoring in 2021.</p><p>There is plenty of reason for optimism surrounding the South Dakota State product heading into this year. The talent of Dallas Goedert should not be doubted. He has been looked at as one of the best pass-catching tight ends since coming into the NFL and has improved each season. The increased opportunity with Ertz out of the picture will benefit him greatly and Goedert has been given the chance to take all first-team reps all the way through training camp. The wide-receiver duo of AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith is one of the best in the NFL. The threat of these two on the outside is sure to demand the attention of opposing defenses and open things up for the entire offense.</p><p>This will serve as a major benefit to Dallas Goedert. Ensuring there is such a focus on these two receivers could play a major role in opening up the middle of the field for him to capitalize. While some may be concerned about the number of targets being directed at the two receivers, Goedert has already established himself as one of Hurts’ more trusted targets. If there are questions about the arm strength of Jalen Hurts, expect there to be a variety of check downs and short routes designed for Goedert. The tight end oftentimes serves as the best friend of a QB and expect the Eagles to utilize him often as they look to build up the confidence of Jalen Hurts.</p><p>While it is still early in the fantasy draft season, Goedert’s averaged draft position is hovering in the 80s. This makes him around an 8th-round pick in a 10-team league and a 7th-round pick in a 12-team league. Given the blend of talent and opportunity, the fifth-year tight end has a real chance to outperform this draft slot. He has had 33 or more catches and 3 touchdowns each year of his career thus far. Goedert also has had over 500 years of receiving in three of the four years. To do all this while being the number two tight end is extremely impressive.</p><p>Taking a chance on Dallas Goedert and looking to land him for this fantasy season could be extremely worthwhile. Do not rule out him ending up in the top five tight ends this season and putting his name on the national map. The Eagles likely would not have made the decision to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/eagles-news-zach-ertzs-emotional-reaction-to-philly-trade-to-cardinals/">trade Zach Ertz</a> if there did not believe in Goedert’s potential and it is now his time to prove it. The Philadelphia Eagles are no different and the team recently released <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/3-biggest-surprises-from-nick-siriannis-first-eagles-depth-chart-for-2022/">its first depth chart</a>.</p><p>The franchise over-performed in its first season with Nick Sirianni as head coach and Jalen Hurts as the starting quarterback. The Eagles finished with a 9-8 record and managed to punch their tickets to the postseason.</p><p><i><b>For our NFC East preview and win projections, listen below:</b></i></p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>This impressive performance last year has increased expectations for the upcoming season. The focus on development has decreased as the team intends to win now. This type of pressure can also result in some guys getting squeezed out for minutes. While these two players remain at the top of the Eagles’ depth chart at the moment, they may be at risk of sliding down as the season inches closer.</p><h2>Eagles: 2 first-stringers in danger of losing starting jobs ahead of 2022 NFL season</h2><p><b>Miles Sanders</b></p><p>In his first two seasons in the NFL, Miles Sanders looked to be on the trajectory of a future premier running back. However, last season he took a little bit of a step back. Sanders <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/SandMi01.htm">finished the year</a> with 137 carries for 754 yards. Both of these tallies were second on the Eagles behind Jalen Hurts. They also are the lowest tallies of his career despite playing one more game than he did the previous season. It took the Penn State product until week 13 to break 100 yards rushing in a game. Sanders also failed to find the end zone at any point during the season.</p><p>The Eagles’ offense and playstyle have not seemed to be a complete match for Miles Sanders. His tendency to dance laterally rather than run downhill has caused issues based on their blocking scheme. The team saw much more success when rotating in Jordan Howard, Kenneth Gainwell, and Boston Scott last season. The Eagles’ offense fully found its stride while Sanders was out on injury and the team fully embraced having a running back by committee. Coach Sirianni is familiar with using a committee for his approach with the run from his time as an offensive coordinator and saw success with this as a head coach.</p><p>Looking ahead to this season, Miles Sanders appears fully healthy and looking to make a statement. However, the downhill nature that the other running backs run with may continue to make more of an impact. Looking at the Eagles’ current depth chart, Sanders is closely followed by Kenneth Gainwell, Boston Scott, and Jason Huntley. While there are enough touches for everyone to get a chance, don’t be surprised if Miles Sanders sees himself slip in the pecking order this season.</p><p><b>Fletcher Cox</b></p><p>The Eagles have clearly made it a focus to win games in the trenches. Putting a focus on adding depth to both sides of the line has been a recipe for their success in recent years. One player who has been a headliner for this mindset has been Fletcher Cox. The 6-time Pro-Bowler has been a key part of the Eagles’ defense for nearly a decade. Unfortunately, he has passed the wrong side of 30 and has seen some decline in his game. Cox did not make the cut for the Pro Bowl last year for the first time since 2014.</p><p>The attention that Fletcher Cox draws is still valuable, but there are other <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/jordan-davis-shares-strong-words-on-nakobe-deans-potential-with-eagles/">impactful options</a> behind him. The most notable name to watch is Jordan Davis. The Eagles selected the Georgia product with the 13th overall pick in this year’s draft. Jumping ahead of Fletcher Cox is no easy task, but Davis has not backed down to anyone thus far in his career.</p><p>It is worth noting that competition is never a bad thing and the fact the Eagles are going to be forced to make a decision is positive. Each of these veterans being challenged is more of an indication of others stepping up around them rather than them underperforming. Then we’re in the game and (Rams quarterback Matthew) Stafford throws one to me and I’m thinking, ‘This is my moment,’ and the moment of truth came and I dropped it. I took accountability and then I had my 24-hour rule and I moved on.”</p><p>Tart became a free agent in March for the second consecutive year. The 49ers opted against re-signing him, and he decided to take his talents to the Philadelphia Eagles on a one-year deal. For the moment, he is set to be provided with a chance to be a starting safety for the Eagles come Week 1 of the 2022 campaign.</p><p>The 49ers are set to call upon the likes of Jimmie Ward and Charvarius Ward to lead their pass defense in the coming season. While their passing game figures to improve, it could also do wonders for fourth-year running back Miles Sanders, who will be looking to put together a complete campaign after struggling in 2021.</p><p>It wasn’t necessarily that Sanders struggled to get yards last season; he averaged 5.5 yards per carry last season, so when he had the ball, he had ample room to run. But pretty much everything else went wrong for Sanders. He split carries with Kenneth Gainwell, Boston Scott, and Hurts under center, failed to score a single touchdown, and <a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/eagles-rb-miles-sanders-broke-bone-in-hand-mri-to-determine-if-he-can-play-throu">missed five games with injuries</a>.</p><p>From a fantasy perspective, Sanders is looking to put together a bounce back season. He has struggled succeed in an offense where Hurts is in charge, but now that Hurts will have more targets to throw to in the passing game, it could lead to more touches for Sanders. Let’s take a closer look at Sanders’ fantasy outlook for the 2022 season and see whether or not a bounce back campaign could be in the cards for him.</p><h2><b>Miles Sanders 2022 fantasy football outlook</b></h2><p>From a fantasy perspective, Sanders was very nearly unplayable last season. He finished as the 43rd best running back in terms of scoring, which was pretty poor. Now, it’s worth noting that Sanders did miss five games, but even when he was on the field, he was inconsistent. Of Sanders’ 12 games, he only scored double-digit points three times. For a guy who was expected to be a solid RB2/FLEX option heading into the season, Sanders let a lot of fantasy owners down last season.</p><p>Despite that, there are a lot of reasons to expect a bounce back campaign from Sanders this upcoming season. For starters, assuming he plays all 17 games this upcoming season, he’s going to be more productive than guys like Latavius Murray and Mike Davis. When Sanders is healthy, he’s a top 25 running back in the league.</p><p>Sanders also had arguably the worst luck in the league when it came to touchdowns last season. He had 171 touches last season, but failed to take one of them to the house. For what it’s worth, Gainwell had six touchdowns last season, Scott had seven, and Hurts scored 10 on the ground himself. There are touchdowns to be had on the ground in the Eagles offense, and Sanders will surely find his way into the end zone in 2022.</p><p>Sanders’ competing for touches with all three of those guys, though, decreases his value immediately. Sanders showed potential as a pass-catching back during his rookie season, but he often got looked over in favor of Gainwell in obvious passing situations last season. Philly’s insistence on rotating their backs makes sense in the NFL, but for fantasy purposes, it hurts Sanders’ value.</p><p>Even though Sanders will be competing for touches, he will be leading the way for the Eagles when he’s healthy. It’s telling that his two best games in terms of yardage last season came during the two games where he got the most carries. Sanders has the ability to rip off big plays out of the backfield, and that instantly makes him a fantasy threat, even with all the question marks he faces heading into the season.</p><p>What also works in Sanders’ favor is that opposing defenses have to account for Hurts’ threat out of the backfield as well. Typically, Sanders will be the benefit of RPO style handoffs, which helps soften the defensive line and allow Sanders a nice two or three yard cushion on most carries. Hurts also has top-tier targets in the passing game in A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert, which should <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/eagles-news-aj-brown-responds-miles-sanders-all-star-team/">open up the Eagles offense</a> even more.</p><p>Sanders is still a very risky pick, but his ceiling is higher than most running backs who will be getting picked around the same time he does. If he can dominate the carries out of Philly’s backfield, there’s no doubt he will be productive. But it remains to be seen how the Eagles will split up their running backs’ playing time in 2022.</p><p>Sanders will probably get drafted somewhere between rounds six and eight. Philadelphia’s offense has a lot of upside and could be poised to take a step forward in 2022. If you like Sanders’ upside given the probability he will bounce back this season, and the fact that Philly’s offense figures to be much improved this season, he makes sense as a FLEX option, with the possibility to become a solid RB2 if everything goes his way.</p><p>But last season showed that things aren’t always going to go Sanders’ way. If he’s around late in the seventh round or early in the eighth, he could be a sneaky option at FLEX, or even off the bench, who ends up forcing his way into your starting lineup. Counting on Sanders may be a bit risky, but the payoff could be quite nice if you pick him at the right time.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

And he was also a <a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/2240246/jalen-hurts/fantasy/">pleasant surprise</a> for the Eagles who took him in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft.</p><p>Jalen Hurts started 15 games for the Eagles last season. When serving as their QB1, he posted a record of 8-7.</p><p>Hurts posted an impressive stat line in 2021. He was effective both throwing the ball and running. His skill set is equipped to lead this Eagles offense.</p><p>Hurts finished the season throwing for 3,144 yards, 16 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He posted a completion percentage of 61.3. At the end of the season, he had a quarterback rating of 87.2.</p><p>Through the running game, Hurts drastically impacted the offense. He ran for 784 yards and ten touchdowns.</p><p>In total, Hurts <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/H/HurtJa00.htm">recorded</a> 26 touchdowns and accounted for 3,928 yards from scrimmage.</p><p>Hurts and the Eagles finished second in the NFC East last season. They were three games back from the Dallas Cowboys.</p><p>Since their mediocre season, the Eagles have retooled their roster. They have made drastic improvements on both the offense and defense. They made their biggest splash of the off-season when they traded for Tennessee Titans wide receiver A.J. Brown on the night of the NFL draft.</p><p>Their offense now has the sort of star power that can make the Eagles a threat in the NFC. Hurt and Brown are accompanied by second-year wide receiver Devonta Smith, tight end Dallas Goedert, and running back Miles Sanders.</p><p>Hurts is also playing behind one of the NFL’s best offensive lines. While the group is anchored by tackles Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata. On the <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/team/depth/_/name/phi/philadelphia-eagles">interior</a>, they are led by future hall-of-fame center Jason Kelce. They also have a future star in their current left guard Landon Dickerson.</p><p>The defense has also been greatly improved. Through the draft, they went <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/eagles-3-pleasant-surprises-standing-out-in-2022-nfl-training-camp/">Georgia heavy</a> by adding both Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean in the first round. They went on to sign two quality starters in cornerback James Bradberry and linebacker Kyzir White.</p><p>Jalen Hurts has all the tools around him that he needs to succeed. This Eagles team is built to be competitive now, and with a good season out of Hurts, they could make a legitimate run.</p><h2><b>Jalen Hurts 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook</b></h2><p>From a fantasy standpoint, Hurts could be one of the best options heading into the 2022 season. He <a href="https://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/reports/leaders/ppr.php?year=2021">finished last season</a> with 321.2 points. This was the 15th most in the NFL.</p><p>Now with added weapons on the offense, and another year of experience, Hurts should be even better this season.</p><p>He will be throwing the ball to two legitimate primary targets in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.</p><p>In 13 games last season, Brown recorded 63 receptions, 869 yards, and five touchdowns. He <a href="https://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/reports/leaders/ppr-wr.php?year=2021">finished the season</a> with 180.9 fantasy points, the 32nd most among wide receivers.</p><p>During his rookie season, DeVonta Smith made an <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/SmitDe07.htm">immediate impact</a>. He recorded 64 receptions, 916 receiving yards, and five touchdowns while playing in all 17 games. His 185.6 <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/devonta-smith-fantasy-football-outlook-for-the-2022-nfl-season/">fantasy</a> points were the 30th most among wide receivers.</p><p>Last season, both of these receivers played on offenses where they were the number one target. Now they will have the luxury of playing alongside each other. Defenses won’t be able to give them both the attention they deserve. This should lead to even more opportunities for not only them but for Hurts himself.</p><p>Eagles running back Miles Sanders should also be in line for a solid season. He played in just 12 games last season and ran for a total of 754 yards on 137 attempts. It is also worth noting that Sanders reached the end zone zero times in 2021.</p><p>But even with his Struggles, Sanders is still a capable runner. And with the Eagles having a chance at a legitimate passing game, this could help open up running opportunities. Sanders and Hurts will both benefit from this.</p><p>Heading into the season, Hurts may not be viewed as a top fantasy quarterback option. But he has all the makings of a league winner. His influence within the offense is undeniable and it all flows through him. On any given play, he could be a threat.</p><p>Hurts is projected to go somewhere around round five. He finished with 64 receptions for 916 yards and five touchdowns. His receiving yards set a new Philadelphia Eagles record for a first-year player. Those numbers show some promise, and Smith has a good chance of taking a significant leap in the next few seasons.</p><p>But is promise enough to make him a good fantasy football pick?</p><p>With that being said, here is the fantasy outlook for DeVonta Smith in the 2022 NFL season.</p><h2>DeVonta Smith 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook</h2><p>One of the biggest questions surrounding DeVonta Smith when he entered the league was his size. At 6’0 and 170 pounds, some questioned if he would have problems facing bigger, stronger NFL defenders. Even though he does not have ideal physical strength, Smith overshadows it with his other abilities.</p><p>His high-level route-running was used very often by the Eagles in 2021. Smith was primarily a perimeter receiver, finishing above the 75th percentile against man, zone and press coverages, including the 84th percentile against press, according to <a href="https://receptionperception.com/devonta-smith-2021-player-profile/" rel="noopener">Reception Perception</a>.</p><p>He also had a target share of 22.8% and averaged 8.8 yards per target and 2.0 yards per route run, according to SportsInfoSolutions. The former Crimson Tide was just the fourth rookie in the last five seasons to achieve such numbers, the others being Terry McLaurin and Pro Bowlers Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson—not bad company.</p><p>However, Smith’s rookie campaign flew under the radar due to the Eagles’ low passing attempts. At 492 throws, Philadelphia finished second-to-last in that category, which signals that even though Smith had a good first year, it could have been even better if the team further committed to attacking defenses through the air.</p><p>There was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grading-the-titans-eagles-blockbuster-aj-brown-trade/">one big offseason move</a> Philadelphia made that could work both for and against Smith: The acquisition of A.J. Brown.</p><p>By having a wide receiver like Brown on the roster, it might incentivize the Eagles to use more of the passing game, which could make a Smith-Brown duo one of the scariest of the league. However, it could also mean that Brown becomes the undisputed focal point of the Eagles’ passing game, removing some of Smith’s presence in the offense.</p><p>Either way, Philadelphia fans should be excited to see both together. But how did Smith perform in fantasy football last year?</p><p>He finished as WR29 and WR41 standing in points per game. Starting in Week 7, Smith failed to see more than six targets a game. He had a total of 121.6 fantasy points, with his best game coming in Week 10, when he scored 18.6 points on the back of multiple touchdown catches.</p><p>One thing that could help Smith produce many fantasy points in this upcoming season is how Philadelphia uses the deep ball. The team’s 21.7% deep-ball rate ranked second in the league. Because of that, even if he receives fewer targets, Smith’s overall production could be similar.</p><p>At only 23 years old and entering his sophomore year in the NFL, Smith still has ample room to grow, and the Eagles’ likely increase in passing attempts should intrigue fantasy football team owners. He can also learn from Brown, which could mean major in-season development as they work together.</p><p>Overall, Smith is an intriguing player to have on a fantasy team, but owners should perhaps look after more experienced players with an established history of putting up big numbers. He is projected to be available around the seventh round in most traditional league formats.</p><p>Fantasy owners should will no doubt have many wide receiver above Smith on their draft board, but nabbing him in the later rounds could yield a very pleasant surprise.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The franchise has a ton of positive takeaways from last year to build off. In the first year with Nick Sirianni as head coach and Jalen Hurts as the starting quarterback, the team took a step forward. They finished with a 9-8 record and punched their ticket to the playoffs.</p><p>The roster is beginning to take shape following the moves that were made this offseason. Expectations have certainly been raised based on the changes. The notable additions have also put some players on the outside looking as the roster takes shape. While there are a number of players expected to be on the roster bubble, here are five players who should be expected to be returning to Philadelphia next season.</p><h2>Last 5 Eagles players who will make Philadelphia’s roster in 2022</h2><p><b>Jalen Reagor</b></p><p>The former first-round pick is certainly feeling the heat after a slow start to his NFL career. Jalen Reagor has struggled greatly through his first two seasons in the NFL. The biggest threat to him has been the other additions to the wide receiver core. The Eagles traded for AJ Brown this offseason as well as added Zach Pascal who was a favorite of Nick Sirianni’s during his time with the Colts.</p><p>While there are plenty of reasons to be frustrated with Jalen Reagor, don’t expect the Eagles to give up on him just yet. Reagor has come into camp in shape and opened some eyes early on. Philly is forced to believe the versatile threat they hoped for when they drafted Reagor is still in there and give him another opportunity in year three.</p><p><b>K’Von Wallace</b></p><p>There were high hopes for K’Von Wallace when he was drafted in 2020. The Clemson product was compared to Brian Dawkins and showed intriguing flashes. Now two seasons into his career, he has struggled to find his footing. The recent signing of Jaquiski Tartt further indicates the Eagles do not fully believe in Wallace and made his seat feel a little warmer. Wallace’s ability to play special teams and his potential should still cement him a spot on the team. The hard-hitter should be expected to remain on the Eagles this season and be given a chance to contribute this season.</p><p><b>Arryn Siposs</b></p><p>It was an interesting rookie year for Arryn Siposs. He had a strong training camp and start to the season last year but struggled down the stretch. He ranked <a href="https://theeagleswire.usatoday.com/lists/philadelphia-eagles-news-nfl-roster-bubble-training-camp-jalen-reagor/" rel="noopener">24th in the NFL</a> in net average out of 29 qualifying punters and 26th in gross average per game. Only 17 of his 55 punts landed inside of the 20 which ranked 26th in the NFL. While it was a largely disappointing season, the former Australian rules footballer has a powerful leg and the Eagles will likely continue to bank on his development. He signed a three-year deal prior to last season and was looked at highly, so don’t expect the Eagles to give up on him just yet. </p><p><b>Greg Ward Jr</b></p><p>The Eagles are clearly loaded at wide receiver but should still be expected to find a spot for Greg Ward Jr. Carrying Ward as a 6th receiver makes sense for the Eagles and he has proven to be ready to step into whatever role is asked. The former college QB is a fan favorite in Philadelphia and caught 53 passes in 2020 but just seven last year. It is possible the decision comes down to Ward or Jalen Reagor for a final spot on the roster but Philly should strongly consider keeping both. The more weapons the better for the Eagles’ offense and Greg Ward Jr is the type of player who can go without touching the ball for several weeks and still rise to the occasion.</p><p><b>Carson Strong</b></p><p>The Philadelphia fanbase had a major meltdown when the organization drafted Jalen Hurts while publically stating Carson Wentz would be the long-term starting quarterback. The same reaction has not quite occurred when the organization brought in Carson Strong on an undrafted free agent deal. He has a strong arm and has shown intriguing flashes but a lengthy injury history scared teams away.</p><p>The Nevada QB is an intriguing prospect who would be a solid developmental prospect. Jalen Hurts has the starting job secured and Gardner Minshew is a great backup to have. However, holding onto Carson Strong as the third-string QB makes sense for the Eagles. Having one starter, one solidified backup, and a project QB has been the normal system for the Eagles as well as other teams around the NFL. Carson Strong is an excellent fit in this category and it is worth seeing what type of player he truly is before moving on.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The franchise finished with a 9-8 record and managed to sneak into the postseason.</p><p>With a full offseason in which they made some notable additions on both sides of the ball, expectations are rising. The Eagles’ defense has had a strong showing in the first few days of camp. While most of the storylines have been expected there are still a handful of surprises on the Eagles’ <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/team/depth/_/name/phi/philadelphia-eagles">first depth chart</a> that was released.</p><h2>3 biggest surprises from Nick Sirianni’s first Eagles depth chart for 2022</h2><p><b>Miles Sanders Remains RB1</b></p><p>It will be interesting to see how the Eagles running back rotation shakes out this year. Miles Sanders has been looked at as one of the premier running backs in the NFL but has not fully found his footing in the Eagles’ offense. Sanders trailed Jalen Hurts in both rushing yards and attempts last season. Boston Scott, Jordan Howard, and Kenneth Gainwell also each made an impact on the ground.</p><p>As the Eagles’ depth chart currently stands, Miles Sanders is listed as the lead back with Kenneth Gainwell as the number two and Boston Scott as the third back. Each guy is sure to receive some touches this season. While Sanders remains the top option on the depth chart, it is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/eagles-news-miles-sanders-delivers-honest-take-on-eagles-future-ahead-of-2022-season/">unlikely he will be the feature back</a> as was previously the case. His agile movements and tendency to dance behind the line of scrimmage did not translate to the best success. Mixing in the downhill attack from Scott and Gainwell was a recipe for success and expect this to continue this season.</p><p><b>Jaquiski Tartt the Starting Strong Safety?</b></p><p>The Eagles made news just prior to the start of camp by signing Jaquiski Tartt to a free agent deal. The 30-year-old played the previous seven seasons with the 49ers where he started the bulk of his opportunities. Rodney McCloud elected to leave the Eagles in free agency this year and left some major shoes to fill. The Super Bowl champ had been the primary starter and one of the key pieces of the secondary since 2016.</p><p>One of notable storyline has been how the safety minutes will shake out following his exit. There was a great deal of buzz surrounding Marcus Epps who has had some positive flashes during his time with the Eagles. For a long period of time it looked as if he would be relied on as the only true option to fill this role. This changed when the Tartt was signed shortly before camp. Epps has reportedly had an impressive camp thus far and done his best to cement a role. It will be interesting to see how the battle for minutes shakes out as the season inches closer but it looks that Jaquidki Tartt holds the early advantage.</p><p><b>Jalen Reagor 5th WR on Depth Chart</b></p><p>It has been a rocky start to Jalen Reagor’s NFL career. He will unfairly be compared to Justin Jefferson for the bulk of his career due to being selected just one pick before him in the 2020 draft. Jefferson is an unfair comparison but Reagor has struggled to measure up to much smaller goals as well. The TCU product has <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/R/ReagJa00.htm">tallied just</a> 64 receptions for 695 yards through his two seasons in the NFL. The Eagles gave him an opportunity as the punt returner but Reagor coughed up a costly fumble in this role during the playoffs.</p><p>The 23-year-old is certainly feeling the pressure heading into his third season. The Eagles have upgraded their wide receiver weapons significantly and there may not be as much opportunity for Reagor. The speedster is doing everything in his control and showed up to camp in great shape. He has shown some nice flashes during training camp and currently sits as the fifth wide receiver on the the depth chart. AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Quez Watkins, and Zach Pascal are all above him. The trade rumors continue to swirl and Reagor spot on the team certainly isn’t set in stone. Expect him to continue doing his best to stand out in camp but Reagor’s future is a storyline to watch.</p><p>It is worth noting that Jalen Hurts has been the biggest storyline surrounding the Eagles. Each and every throw has been overanalyzed so far in camp and he has had some ups and downs. This is considered to be a make-or-break year for Hurts as he enters the second season as the starter. The team has done everything possible to set him up for success and it is his turn to deliver. The two have been standout performers over the opening days of the Eagles’ training camp schedule.</p><p>From getting more work in during passing drills to simply going over the playbook with Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen, Hurts and Brown are continuing to get crucial reps together ahead of the team’s preseason games.</p><p>On Hurts’ part, it has been smooth sailing in tagging along with the one-time Pro Bowler. As Hurts touched on during a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHPX7wWcxNk" rel="noopener">press conference</a> at Eagles’ training camp earlier this week, he sees that he is “growing together” with Brown.</p><p>“It’s a day-by-day thing,” Hurts said. “I think we’re growing together. I think we’re adjusting together. Our relationship is changing and going from best friends to best friends on the field as well. Just trying to make things go.</p><p>“Seeing how he does, just having a feel for him, him having a feel for me and how I see that game. And just being on the same page.”</p><p>From Steichen’s <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Du3rQ8RSbLo" rel="noopener">standpoint</a>, he believes that both Hurts and Brown are making “great strides” on offense.</p><p>“I think they’re making great strides,” Steichen said. “They’ve spent a lot of time together in the off-season, obviously in spring and then they threw again in the summer. It shows up, the timing, right?</p><p>“With anything, wide receivers and quarterbacks, it’s not like it just happens overnight. It’s been good to see. They’re talking through things right after every period. They are talking about, hey, we got to run it more like this and this ball needs to be here. Those things take time but it’s been good to see and the progress has been really good.”</p><p>For now, the Eagles sure are already looking ahead to their public practice at Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday. They will then turn their attention to their preseason <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sports/nfl/philadelphia-eagles" rel="noopener">opener</a>, which will come with a home clash against the New York Jets on August 12. He has 64 receptions, 695 receiving yards, and three touchdowns.</p><p>Outside of Reagor, the Eagles’ wide receiver room also consists of A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Quez Watkins, and Greg Ward. If Reagor can play at a high level, it could elevate this group into being one of the best in the NFL.</p><h2>2. Jalen Hurts is showing off his arm</h2><p>The Philadelphia Eagles will go as far as Jalen Hurts can take them in <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/key-2022-fantasy-football-qb-projections-is-there-any-reason-to-doubt-jalen-hurts-171229817.html">2022</a>.</p><p>Hurts was among the most productive quarterbacks in the NFL last season. He was a threat through both the air and ground, which brought an extra level to this offense.</p><p>In 15 games last season, Hurts threw for 3,144 yards, 16 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He added another 784 yards and 10 touchdowns on 139 rushing attempts.</p><p>Now, as training camp continues, Hurts has looks like he has improved his game. The group will be headlined by Hurts’ longtime friend A.J. Brown and last year’s <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/SmitDe07.htm">first-round pick</a> DeVonta Smith.</p><p>Both Brown and Smith could be a wide receiver one on a fair amount of NFL teams.</p><p>In his rookie season, Smith recorded 64 receptions for 916 yards and five touchdowns. He also averaged just over 14 yards per reception. He found this success while still being the team’s primary pass catcher. Now with Brown next to him, he could have even more opportunities.</p><p>A.J. Brown was sent to the Eagles after spending the first <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BrowAJ00.htm">three seasons</a> of his career with the Tennessee Titans. During his time with the Titans, Brown was the focal point of their passing game. In 43 career games, he recorded 185 receptions, 2,995 receiving yards, and 24 total touchdowns. He has a career average of 16.2 yards per reception.</p><p>Hurts will now have the luxury of throwing to both of these talented receivers on a regular basis.</p><p>Based on what Hurts has shown during training camp, all three of them could be on course for career years. If he can get them the ball and make the tough passes, this offense could be set up for success. His influence in creating the run game will also help elevate the group.</p><h2>1. Jordan Davis could be a starter on the defensive front</h2><p>When the Eagles drafted Georgia defensive tackle with the 17th pick, they knew they were adding a player who could be a <a href="https://www.inquirer.com/eagles/eagles-training-camp-jordan-davis-nfl-draft-20220801.html">generational talent</a> up front. The 2022 offseason was one of the most hectic in recent memory, with star players changing teams across the league. The Philadelphia Eagles made one of the biggest splashes in the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/eagles-grading-philadelphias-entire-2022-nfl-offseason/">entire offseason</a> by acquiring AJ Brown from the Tennessee Titans Titans.</p><p>Philadelphia made a surprising playoff appearance last season after a four-win season in 2020. The Eagles fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round, but fans were excited to see the team’s progress.</p><p>The Eagles came into the 2022 offseason with a desire to improve their passing game. They led the league in rushing offense with nearly 160 yards per game, but finished No. 25 in passing with barely over 200 yards on average. With an abundance of first-round picks, Philadelphia swung a massive trade on draft night to acquire Tennessee’s star receiver.</p><p>The Eagles not only traded for Brown, but <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/33823684/philadelphia-eagles-acquire-star-wr-aj-brown-blockbuster-trade-tennessee-titans">immediately signed him</a> to a four-year extension worth up to $100 million. Philadelphia is expecting Brown to put up big numbers, and so are fantasy football owners. The Eagles had a noticeable hole at wide receiver in prior seasons but addressed it over the last two seasons. Adding Brown gives Philadelphia the game changer it has been missing at wideout.</p><p>The only pass-catching options that come close to Brown’s caliber are Dallas Goedert and DeVonta Smith. Goedert is a tight end and obviously plays a much different role than Brown. Smith plays a more similar role, but they shouldn’t take targets away from each other.</p><p>Brown’s availability is another positive. His injury history isn’t perfect, missing six games in three years and playing through minor injuries last season. However, he is durable enough to be a staple in the lineup in the strong majority of matchups.</p><p>Philadelphia’s schedule will also allow Brown to thrive. The Eagles have the <a href="https://www.si.com/nfl/2022/05/12/what-are-nfl-strength-of-schedules-this-season">third-easiest</a> schedule in the league and play just six games against 2021 playoff teams. They play just two teams, the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers, with top-10 passing defenses last season.</p><p>On the other hand, the Eagles play six games against bottom-10 passing defenses last season. This includes two games against Washington, which finished with the fourth-worst passing defense and allowed 254.9 yards per game. Brown has no shortage of chances to rack up big points against poor secondaries.</p><p>The biggest concern with AJ Brown from a fantasy perspective is Philadelphia’s offensive scheme. Head coach Nick Sirianni showed heavy emphasis on the run in his first season, attempting more runs than passes. This game plan works well for the Eagles but may be less appealing for Brown’s fantasy owners.</p><p>On the bright side, Brown proved he can thrive in a run-first scheme with the Titans. He had two 1,000-yard seasons with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/derrick-henry-fantasy-football-outlook-for-the-2022-nfl-season/">Derrick Henry</a> as the focal point of the offense and likely would have a third if not for injuries.</p><p>Jalen Hurts, Brown’s new quarterback, is more of a question mark than a pro or a con for Brown’s fantasy outlook. He showed he can be a starter in the league last season, but he’ll want to bring up his 61.3% completion. Having a receiver like Brown to throw to should help on its own, though.</p><p>AJ Brown shows great promise from a fantasy perspective in his debut season with Philadelphia. He has a very high ceiling and his drawbacks shouldn’t prevent anyone from targeting him. The 20th overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft hasn’t lived up to his potential at all. He has totaled just 695 yards in his first two seasons in the league, which isn’t good for a first-rounder. It looks even worse when you see who was taken after Reagor: stud WRs like Justin Jefferson, Brandon Aiyuk, and Tee Higgins were on the board for them.</p><p>Despite that, it seems like the Eagles brass <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/jalen-reagor-eagles-future-draws-honest-take-from-gm-howie-roseman/">still has faith</a> in Reagor to put it all together. They are likely hoping that AJ Brown’s presence on the roster will motivate Reagor. Perhaps Brown can even teach Reagor a few tricks on how to lower his drop rate! However, the Philly faithful has seemingly lost all hope for the former first-round pick.
