Miles Sanders was able to produce an impressive rookie campaign in 2019 with the Philadelphia Eagles, but he has loftier expectations for 2020. As he enters his second season in the NFL, Sanders sees Christian McCaffrey as a running back he wants to mirror himself after.

“When I look at him, I look at a back that’s very hard to stop. I want to be that back,” Sanders said, via Tim McManus of ESPN.com. “I want to be that back where you think you can stop me in the run game and then, boom, I’m outside in the passing game and I’m rolling up yards for the team. I want to be that back where there’s no way you can really slow me down or stop me or take me out of the game because I’m so versatile. That’s the type of mentality and the type of player I want to be.”

Earlier this week, McCaffrey became the highest-paid running back in the NFL after receiving a four-year, $64 million extension from the Carolina Panthers. McCaffrey, who's arguably the best dual-threat running back in the NFL, earned the extension after garnering 2,392 yards from scrimmage and 19 touchdowns in 2019.

As for Sanders, he was able to compile 1,327 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns in his rookie season for the Eagles. However, he has his sights on reaching the status of McCaffrey in the near future.

Without a doubt, McCaffrey is setting a precedent for future running backs with his new extension. At the same time, his play on the field is causing running backs to aspire to be him.
