The Philadelphia Eagles did not get a chance to go to the White House after President Donald Trump canceled the team’s scheduled visit. But as it turned out, it was actually just an Eagle (at most two) who missed out on going to D.C. And that lone Eagle who was sure to go was none other than Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles.

Via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:

Interesting. Per Mike Garafolo, the Eagles player contingent to the White House was slated to be Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles… and maybe one other player.

That number is even lower than what was reported by other sources, one of which said only 2-3 players were available for the trip.

Based on that shockingly low turnout had the visit gone through, it makes a lot more sense that the White House decided to pull the plug on the whole thing. It would have been a humiliating sight to have just a couple of members of the 50-plus man Super Bowl-winning team in attendance, even if one of those was the MVP himself.

It makes sense that Foles was all set to go. This was probably a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him to go to the White House and meet the President as the Super Bowl MVP, so it was tough to pass that up. But on the whole, it shows a surprising amount of team unity that just about every other Eagle decided against joining the visit.

As if there wasn’t enough love lost between Trump and the NFL as it is, this latest development has only fanned the flames which are unlikely to die down anytime soon.
