Ed Sheeran shared his review of Taylor Swift's Tortured Poets Department. However, did he shade Jack Antonoff when praising Aaron Dessner?

Speaking to ExtraTV at the Los Angeles Dodgers Gala, Sheeran shared his review of the album. He specifically shouted out Dessner, who was a producer alongside Antonoff.

“It's great, I think it's great,” Sheeran said of the album. “I always love the work that she does with Aaron. I think it's a very powerful album.”

Noticeably, Sheeran only shouted out Dessner and not Antonoff. Perhaps he is just closer to Dessner or prefers his music over what Swift has done with Antonoff.

Jack Antonoff largely produced and co-wrote the songs on The Tortured Poets Department. He was credited as a producer on 12 of the 16 songs (along with Swift herself). Dessner, on the other hand, was only credited as a producer five times, including once with both Swift and Antonoff.

However, the Anthology edition of the album was a different story. While Antonoff still produced a handful of songs, Dessner largely made up the tracks. Out of the 15 extra songs, Dessner was credited on 12 of them.

Previously, Sheeran and Swift have collaborated on several songs. Sheeran first appeared on Swift's Red album in 2012 on the song “Everything Has Changed.” Years later, when Swift released the (Taylor's Version) edition of the album, Sheeran appeared on the song “Run,” which Aaron Dessner produced.

A few years after Red, Sheeran once again collaborated with Swift on “End Game” from Reputation. In turn, Swift appeared on a duet version of Sheeran's “The Joker and the Queen,” the fourth single off of his Divide album.

It has been a few years, so Sheeran and Swift seem overdue to collaborate again. With Reputation being one of the remaining albums Swift has yet to record, perhaps Sheeran will return to re-record “End Game.”

At the 2024 Grammys, Swift and Sheeran both had albums up for Best Pop Vocal Album. Swift's Midnights took home the award over the other nominees including Sheeran's Subtract.

Ed Sheeran's 2024 tour

Currently, both Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift are busy on tour. Swift is about to resume her “Eras” tour while Sheeran is playing one-off gigs in America before resuming his “Mathematics” tour in June.

In the coming weeks, Sheeran will play a set at the Boston Calling and BottleRock festivals. Before then, Sheeran will play a special tenth-anniversary show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York for his Multiply album. On June 8, Sheeran will officially resume the “Mathematics” tour with a European leg that will commence in Lucca, Italy.

On top of touring, Sheeran has been busy in the studio. When the “Mathematics” tour began, Sheeran had just released his Divide album. In 2023, Sheeran released the final entry in the math symbol-titled album era, Subtract, and released Autumn Variations later in the year.
