Have you ever wondered what would happen when you kill the Turtle Pope Miriel in Elden Ring? What is Turtle Pope loot, what does Miriel drop? Wonder no more because we have the answer here for you. Keep reading:

Miriel, Pastor of Vows, is an NPC in Elden Ring. He is affectionately called the Turtle Pope by fans of the game, thanks to his tortoise-like appearance and the white pointy hat that he wears. He sells sorceries and incantations to players, which he offers to players by telling the Tarnished that they “can learn together.” Ain't he sweet? This affectionate interaction with the players makes the Turtle Pope a well-loved character by fans.

However, just like most NPC in the game, Miriel can be attacked and damaged. What happens when you do that, Elden Ring fans ask – and what happens when you kill Turtle Pope Miriel? If curiosity has taken hold of you, you'd probably have tried attacking him already. But many of you would have stopped eventually. Miriel has a ton of health, and it will take a long time for a player to whittle down the Turtle Pope's health. However, he would never retaliate, instead asking the player (nicely) to stop attacking him. In fact, he even says that he'll forgive and forget your transgression if you stop attacking him. What would happen if you kill him? We didn't have it in ourselves to take down such a gentle creature. Thankfully, Elden Ring subreddit member u/VG-Crimson was brazen enough so that we don't have to kill Miriel to find out. He did it so we don't have to.

I killed Pope Turtle, so you don't have to. from Eldenring

If you do continue hitting him with your weapon and he ends up dying, he'll let out a loud last gasp, before giving himself up to oblivion. And what would you get for killing him? He drops the Miriel's Bell Bearing, an item you can take back to the Roundtable Hold so that you can buy whatever Miriel was selling from the Twins. Apart from that? Just a couple of turtle meat.

Was it worth it? VG_Crimson says that no, “There is nothing to gain, and you lose not only the convenience of him, but you lose a part of yourself too.”

Perhaps the heaviest part of all of this? When you kill other NPC in Elden Ring, you can revive them and remove their aggro by consuming a Celestial Dew. This is called Absolution, which is basically the player asking for forgiveness for his sins. But after killing Miriel? Absolving for killing him isn't even available. As VG_Crimson says, “If you try to get absolved from hurting/killing him it is not needed. This is probably because he has already forgiven you.” What a nice chap, if that's true.
