Among the many fantastic action set pieces in Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One is an alley fight between Paris (Pom Klementieff) and Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise). It's a visceral sequence that takes place in close quarters and features Paris getting her head smashed into bricks.

“Yes, it was foam actually,” Klementieff said with a smile during our conversation about the latest Mission: Impossible film.

Klementieff continued then revealed that the whole alley set was a replica. “We rebuilt the set to make it safe. So it was like all foamed on the side and on the ground [because] you don't want to hurt yourself too much,” she said with a laugh.

In terms of the actual logistics of the fight sequence, Klementieff acknowledged how tight the space was.”It was very difficult to shoot because it was so narrow,” she revealed.  “So it was really hard to know where to place the camera, how to light the scene, how to show all the movements, you know?”

However, she concluded that the whole experience and sequence “was really cool, too.”

In Dead Reckoning Part One, Pom Klementieff played Paris, an assassin hired to kill Ethan Hunt and Grace (Hayley Atwell). She works closely with the film's main human antagonist, Gabriel (Esai Morales), but it's Klementieff who steals the show in the latest Mission: Impossible much in the way that Henry Cavill did in Fallout. Klementieff and Atwell make their franchise debuts and are both great new additions to the series — the former also complimented the franchise's women characters in our chat — but aside from Tom Cruise, other franchise veterans including Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, and Vanessa Kirby return in Dead Reckoning Part One. Henry Czerny also returns as Eugene Kittridge who has not been seen since the first Mission: Impossible film in 1996.
