When the new DC Universe hits the big screen with Superman in 2025, audiences are going to get introduced to plenty of heroes alongside the titular Man of Steel as he goes about life in Metropolis. The city doesn't look to be the only place audiences will be visiting, though, as new behind the scene pick have given fans a first tease of the small town where Kal-El became Clark Kent.
Some behind the scenes pictures have emerged on social media showing the Superman shoot has moved to the countryside and what will serve as the Kent family farm. This seemingly confirms that Clark's hometown of Smallville, Kansas, will be appearing at some point in the film and potentially his adoptive human parent, Martha and Jonathan Kent.

Director James Gunn has already given audiences a taste of the film's visual style in an official image showing Superman's star David Corenswet in full costume for the first time.
The only other images emerging from the film's set have been shared on social media either by Gunn, himself, or members of the cast, though no one has been seen in costume.
Welcome to Smallville
The inclusion of Smallville and the Kent farm in Superman may not catch many fans by surprise given the location's importance to Clark Kent and his journey to becoming a hero. It was in this small Kansas town that his pod crashed after being sent on a long trek across the stars by his birth parents on Krypton who wanted to save their son from sharing in the planet's doomed fate.
In the comics, Smallville has been an ever-present factor in Superman's life and the hero has found himself defending it as often as he has Metropolis from the many threats Earth and the larger universe has thrown at him. The town has even gotten more of a direct spotlight given to it in recent years, including the 2023 six-issue limited series Fire and Ice: Welcome to Smallville.
The town has seen plenty of iteration on screen, as well, dating back to the original 1978 film directed by Richard Donner.
In film, the town has typically been shown in flashbacks to illustrate the importance it had in Clark discovering his powers, connecting with humanity, and taking the first steps to becoming a hero.
Smallville was far more central, though, to the TV series of the same name that ran for ten seasons between 2001 and 2011, with it even changing networks from WB to the CW after the former merged with UPN. The series explored Clark's teen and early adult years as he came to grips with his powers, met younger versions of other heroes including The Flash and Aquaman, and offered a new twist on his friendship turned rivalry with Lex Luthor.
Superman is scheduled to release in theaters on July 11, 2025.
