Gianluigi Donnarumma saved Bukayo Saka's spot-kick, won it all for Italy, and nonchalantly walked off. As if winning the European Championship is something he does every day in his sleep.

Social media was raging over his celebration calling Gigi a ā€œsavageā€, when, in fact, he wasn't even aware that his save was the decisive one.

ā€œI didn't celebrate on the penalty because I didn't understand that we had won,ā€ Gianluigi Donnarumma toldĀ Sky Sport Italia.Ā ā€œI was already down after Jorginho's missed penalty and I thought we had lost, but instead I had to continue.

ā€œAnd now, with VAR, they always look at your feet since they can't be in front [of the line], and so I turned to the referee to see if everything was okay. Then I turned and saw my teammates coming towards me and everything kicked off from there. I didn't understand anything.ā€

Gianluigi Donnarumma is just the second goalkeeper in history after Peter Schmeichel of Denmark in 1992, to win Best Player of the Tournament at the Euros. He accomplished this feat with three clean sheets and three penalty saves ā€“ two of those in the final against England, and one against Spain in the semi-finals.

The 22-year-old was a free agent as of July 1st and is expected to make a free transfer to PSG this summer. Do you think he can take over Keylor Navas's spot as their first-choice goalkeeper?

The Costa Rican has been showing stellar performances in goal for the French club, so Donnarumma will definitely have a hard time securing the number one spot. But, winning Euro 2020 and performing at such a high level will certainly help his case.
