Aston Martin faithful hope to finally score a win in the F1 Spanish Grand Prix. After a P2 finish in Circuit de Monaco, Fernando Alonso is setting his sights on his home race in Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Only Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez seem to stand in Alonso‘s way for an illustrious home victory.

The Aston Martin driver almost always racked up a podium finish throughout the previous six races. However, a Red Bull driver always finished ahead of the Spanish driver. Alonso doesn't expect the Spanish Grand Prix to be any different, via formula1.com

“I don’t think realistically we can fight for the victory, let’s be clear,” Alonso said. “Red Bull have been very dominant all season long and I don’t see any reason why, in Barcelona, they should not aim for a one-two. But let’s see what we can do.”

Fernando Alonso's expectations are not out of the ordinary. So far, Verstappen has been plowing over the competition with 144 points, six podium finishes, and four race wins to lead the F1 World Drivers' Championship. The only person near him in second place is fellow Red Bull driver Perez.

With a home victory in the Spanish Grand Prix, Alonso may usurp Perez for second place. Currently, Alonso is 12 points behind in the standings. Furthermore, Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton remain a threat to Aston Martin entering the race. A win in Spain means strengthening their case for second in the F1 World Constructors' Championship.
