F1 championship leaders Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton shed some light on their expectations after topping one practice session each ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

After winning three races in a row, Hamilton showcased his searing pace throughout the practice sessions. The seven-time F1 world champion aims to set a new record by winning his eighth title this year. Still, the Brit expects a final cardiac race in a track that he seems to be happy with.

“It was OK; it has been a relatively decent day.”

“I like the changes they have made to this track. It has made the track much more enjoyable and much more flowing.”

“Obviously close between us all but we've got through our sessions. Still a bit unknown in terms of pace but I'm sure it's going to be super close like it has been in the previous races.”

Verstappen echoes his F1 rival's sentiments about the track, despite not being satisfied with his current pace.

“We’re still learning and understanding a few things. But of course, clearly, the short run didn’t go to plan, lacking a bit of pace,”

“I think it makes it a bit more fun to drive,” he said. “I mean, in general, faster corners are more fun, especially in the last sector.

As both drivers share the same number of points, it's been quite a while since an F1 driver like Verstappen challenged Hamilton's title bid throughout the season. Fans should sit tight because this race will be an instant classic.
