The NFL season is quickly approaching as each team prepares for a new year of football. The Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith was asked about his pregame routine, allowing him to take a jab at Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. According to Miles Garrett, Smith subtly says, “I don’t spend an hour looking in the mirror before games like Matt LaFleur does.”

Shots fired indeed! The Falcons aren’t playing around this year and Arthur Smith is already playing mind games on some of his opponents. Unfortunately, the Falcons and Packers don’t play each other this year and will only face off if they somehow meet in the playoffs.

Smith and LaFleur have a history together, so it’s not like this is meant to hurt LaFleur’s feelings or anything. They both stem from Mike Shanahan’s coaching tree which has been steadily taking over the NFL in recent years. Arthur Smith and Matt LaFleur worked together with the Tennessee Titans as well, meaning these guys are likely close friends.

With the Falcons, Packers, and the rest of the NFL preparing for the new season, it’s nice to see some humor once in a while. With the recent news of injuries and trade rumors, Arthur Smith’s subtle jab at LaFleur makes for a nice change of pace. Hopefully, we see Matt LaFleur throw some shade towards Smith. It could generate a fun, but competitive rivalry between the two.

The NFL season kicks off on September 9th between the Dallas Cowboys and the defending Super Bowl Champions the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It should be a great year as multiple teams are stacked and primed for a playoff run. The Falcons have some work to do as they’ve entered a new era after trading Julio Jones away. Meanwhile, the Packers are back in the race with everything smoothed over with Aaron Rodgers.
